Steam Cloud Frenzy

The steam grates downtown that frequently pour their excess heat in white puffy cloud form are often the source of much joy for the homeless population during the winter months, when they provide pockets of livable weather when usually the bitter cold overtakes the city. Of course, usually they’re not running in the summer time, but this morning as we drove north on 12th St past the EPA, sure enough, the voluminous white cloud was coming up from the street grating.

Any idea why the steam system would be running in early August?
