Where to Wii?

I’ve never actually seen one for sale, I’ve only seen displays that require you to talk to someone and try to find one, and they usually disappear to check and then never return.

So, if we wanted a Wii, how the heck do we find one? I’ve heard tell of a magical service that will text you based on various stocking systems’ results, but I haven’t found it yet. Any place carrying them in stock just yet? I’d love to be a less out-of-shape geek, and if I can get there while playing video games…

I live and work in the District of Columbia. I write at We Love DC, a blog I helped start, I work at Technolutionary, a company I helped start, and I’m happy doing both. I enjoy watching baseball, cooking, and gardening. I grow a mean pepper, keep a clean scorebook, and wash the dishes when I’m done. Read Why I Love DC.

  1. I haven’t looked back there in a while, but the day that I picked up my WiiFit at the Columbia Heights Target, they had about 5 or 6 Wii consoles in the locked cabinet shelf. When an employee saw me buying the Fit, he was surprised not only that they had those, but also that they had consoles in stock. So a visit to the store might be better than a call.

I never had any luck using the online watch sites, nabbing my console only when a friend who worked at WalMart told me I needed to hurry over and grab one… I convinced him to buy it for me.

But seeing a few available in Columbia Heights that day was a shock to me.

  2. ObAnecdote: The past two times I’ve been by the case in the Columbia Heights Target they’ve had them in stock. YMMV.

  3. Well, I don’t know where to get them now. I bought mine way back when there weren’t any and I got it from Ebay. I got my Wii Fit from Amazon. Although someplace like Gamestop usually has some. I agree with your friends though, it’s pretty sweet.

  4. The Target closest to me – and I think you as well, Tom – over on Rt 1 in Crystal City – doesn’t put them in the case when they do have them, presumably because they sell so quickly. However they are just behind the counter where the digital cameras and things are, so the person you ask can just look at their feet to check.

I managed to get one on someone else’s behalf at the GameStop in Pentagon City Mall. There they seem to like to keep them in the glass case behind the counter, so you can see them yourself.

  5. Last time I was at the Bailey’s Target, they were in stock. Also, a friend of mine picked one up at a local Blockbuster.

  6. You can also look on craigslist–that’s where my husband and I found one that was selling for face-value.

Can’t wait to try the Wii Fit though!

  7. WiiTracker.com is also a good place…

Been jonseing for the same thing, wife won’t let me get one, but my Dad owes me a Christmas and Birthday present (belated), so it’s on the hook for it….
