hi Carl , 4 a Malaysian like me , we can easily buy any kind of durian a stone throw away every 3 mths. the taste ranging from sweet to bitter , have u try the bitter one ? i hv just made 500ml of durian ice-cream but I used egg yolks only. I hv came across a recipe that used egg white only , it looks nicer . Anyway thanks 4 your sharing . Have a nice day. Yah! you can use durian to make cake and you won.t switch to other kind of cake I promise . If you dare to try another Malaysian kind of durian soap , try this : cook some durian flesh with green beans + sago + coconut milk + pandan leaves + and lastly add in the egg . U can find this in the Thai restaurant>

I figure if I can eat the stinkiest of cheeses, I should move on to the stinkiest of fruits. Surely, I'll be able to find it in New York City!
Great post.

Try your local Vietnamese or Thai market. I go to Eden supermarket at Seven Corners in Falls Church. You might have to look in the freezer section for boxed fruit pulp removed from the pod. If you opt to buy the fruit itself, you can freeze what you don't use in small freezer bags. It keeps for a long time and is some kind of good!

Where do I get durian in the DC area? I adore durian ice cream. I also love the look I get it when I order it in a Thai restaurant, generally followed by "are you sure you want that?"
