Capitol Visitors Center Nearly Open!

Upwards to the Capitol

This shot was taken from the entranceway to the new Capitol Visitors Center this morning. While the CVC doesn’t open to the public until December 2nd, we got the private tour today, along with a lot of the rest of the media. The short version? It’s amazing. The slightly longer version? It’s amazing, but it cost over $600 Million and will have taken almost 7 years to complete. Emancipation Hall is the centerpiece of the CVC, at the heart of which is the original 5-piece plaster statue of Armed Freedom, the bronze version of which sits atop the Capitol Dome.

Thanks much to the CVC Media Staff and the Senate Press Gallery for their help today!

I live and work in the District of Columbia. I write at We Love DC, a blog I helped start, I work at Technolutionary, a company I helped start, and I’m happy doing both. I enjoy watching baseball, cooking, and gardening. I grow a mean pepper, keep a clean scorebook, and wash the dishes when I’m done. Read Why I Love DC.

  1. I’m so jealous that you got an early peak. I can’t wait to get in there. Working across the street at the Library of Congress for a while, I only heard about the CVC and saw it everyday.
