Marriage equality, rain or shine

Despite the threat of ugly weather, over a thousand people gathered in front of the Capital building Saturday to make their voice heard. You can see my photographs here, though I missed a shot of the most poignant sign.

It read:

MARRIED 8/1/08
UNMARRIED 11/4/08

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.

  1. It sucks to know Californians and most Americans feel I’m three-fifths of a person.

I grew up in a fundamental, hell fire & brimstone, Baptist church with my Dad (R.I.P.) as the pastor. I attended a Christian school my entire life and was basically forced to attend a Christian college. Most of the people I knew growing up now despise me and think I’m a freak. This includes my family. Their unkindness and hurtful words have shown me one thing: most Christians preach love, but show very little to me and the GLBT community. I already stopped attending church years ago and consider myself an Agnostic theist. But the rhetoric spewed forth from the “Yes on Prop 8” crowd was the final straw.

I’m now 100% heterophobic and officially hate Christianity.

  2. Wish I could have been there. My wife and I wanted to go to show our support but our four and a half month old daughter caught pink eye and a nasty cough coupled with a double ear infection. Needless to say, we weren’t going anywhere this weekend. I attended the event vicariously through you though.
