Oookay, I think we can all agree that a new Java Green is good for everyone, no matter what, and just leave it at that!

Not cow = people (as in humans), Tom. Not at all. Your mistake. Who's assuming what here?
Like humans, cows, and other animals, feel pleasure and pain and have an interest in avoiding pain and seeking pleasure.
You are assuming that, because you are a human being, that your taste is more important than a cows interest in not being raped. There's nothing "humane" about that. That's just speciesism. Pure and simple.
You obviously have a problem understanding the "crux" of my argument (willfully i believe) so I agree with you that we cannot have this discussion "in good faith".

Peace

I think your mistake here, Lu, is assuming that Cows = People.

I don't believe that Cows are given the same moral standing as Humans. As that's the crux of your argument, I don't believe we can have a discussion in good faith.

"Humane"? There's still forced impregnation involved here, Tom. That's rape. Is it not more "humane" not to have cows raped just so you can enjoy the taste of their bodily secretions?
You seem like a bright guy, Tom. I'm sure you are aware that humans can get good sources of protein and calcium without consuming cows milk. In fact, the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted, The China Study, has shown that animal protein, especially the milk protein, casein, is very harmful to human health. Humans have no nutritional requirement for cows milk. None. Therefore, consuming it is unnecessary and there's not justification for treating another sentient being in that way (raping them).
Just because some (not all) humans have being doing something for "thousands of years" doesn't mean that it's morally justifiable to continue doing so. Do you use the same justification for chattel slavery? How about war and genocide?

Lu,

I certainly recognize that you believe that milking a cow is a hate crime, but animal husbandry has been part of our civilization for thousands of years. While I certainly decry the conditions that many factory-farmed cattle are held in, there are ways to milk cows that is humane.

I would disagree that milk consumption is weird, but rather a part of our culinary culture, dating back thousands of years. It's a good source of protein, calcium, and well, a good ice cream is hard to beat on a hot day, even if you've got some tasty strawberry sorbet on hand.

Also, it's totally "weird" for any human to consume cow's milk. No other mammal takes the milk of another species and no other mammal drinks milk after being weaned.
It speaks volumes that the majority of the world's population is "lactose intolerant" (read - has a completely normal digestive system).
I am weaned, therefore I am on a normal path, in this sense at least. You are not weaned, so you are the one who is on a "weird, weird path", by the standards of evolution and the majority of the Earth's population, Tom.

I'm not the one who condones rape and thinks that products that are a result of rape are "tasty", Tom. And I'm weird? OK...
Can you deny that there is rape involved in the process of obtaining cow's milk?

Wow! That's great that they're opening a new joint!
Hopefully they'll make the new menu all vegan. I mean, why serve stolen bodily secretions anyways?
