April Concert Preview

This month, people seem to have planned ahead and half the really exciting concerts are sold out! Well, I’ll try to nip that in the bud from now on and post some future shows to watch out for at the bottom. Also seems like there are a lot of dance parties this month, which might be just the thing to get everyone going and ready for summer. But now, onto the music!

Catch local band Exit Clov at the Black Cat ($10) tonight, April 1. If you haven’t heard them yet, they’re kind of indie rock, with a little bit of an electronica sound thrown in. Most notably, their twin lead singers’ harmonies really set them apart from the generic indie rockers out there.

As part of the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Kennedy Center‘s Milennium Stage is presenting “Blossoms in the Breeze: The Sounds of the Spring” (free) on Saturday, April 4. Add that to an outdoor picnic on a nice day, and you’ve got me, spring. I’m yours.

Maria Taylor, The Whispertown 2000, and Laura Burhenn will be at Rock and Roll Hotel ($10 in advance, $12 at the door) on Friday, April 10 for your monthly dose of sweetly melodious girl rock. Seriously, I had never heard of any of these guys and I was really impressed by Ms. Taylor…definitely worth the $10.

So what if it’s a weekday? Tuesday, April 14 is a booty-shaking night. Ladytron & The Faint will be at the 9:30 Club ($25), which is pretty much a guaranteed good time. I saw The Faint at the 9:30 Club last year, and it was great– it’s five guys with synthesizers lined up on stage, but the crowd was so high-energy, you couldn’t help but dance.

And finally, close out the month on a sweet, hopeful note with Will Hoge with Katie Herzig at Jammin Java ($15) on Wednesday, April 29.

There’s plenty more on the way this spring: Gavin Rossdale, Ben Harper, Eric Hutchinson, and The National are all coming to the 9:30 Club in May, and Her Space Holiday and Jukebox the Ghost will be at Rock and Roll Hotel. More details in next month’s round-up!
