It’s been a reasonably busy foodie week out there. So let’s jump straight into all the news that’s fit to eat in the District.

On Tax Day, April 15th, BRABO by Robert Wiedmaier, the newcomer to the popular King Street dining scene, is featuring a special incentive for diners by paying the tax during lunch and dinner service. For one day only, guests can partake in Wiedmaier’s delicious Belgian and American-inspired cuisine and save on their bill. Apparently Wiedmaier isn’t planning on applying for a position in the Obama administration, since he’s overpaying taxes.

In chef news, Jackson 20 restaurant, the eatery in Old Town, Alexandria, announced the arrival of Executive Chef Dennis Marron. Marron, who also serves as executive chef at the Kimpton’s sister restaurant The Grille at Morrison House, brings a commitment to fresh, local ingredients and a knack for soul-satisfying regional cuisine to Jackson 20’s modern, regional fare. The spokeswoman for Kimpton, Charissa Benjamin, promises “the ‘southern comfort food’ concept will stay the same, but Dennis will design completely new menus with some fun new dishes.”

In other chef news, Eat Bar/Tallula announced a new chef today – Barry Koslow will now serve as Executive Chef of both concepts. Koslow most recently served as executive chef of Mendocino Grille and Wine Bar in Georgetown, the sous chef at Circle Bistro in Washington, DC and the chef de partie at Michel Richard’s Citronelle. This little tidbit makes me swoon, because last time I went to Eat Bar I was sorely disappointed. I’m crossing my fingers for Koslow to breathe new life into one of my favorite ‘hood haunts.

In wino news, Proof welcomes renowned winemaker Greg La Follette of Tandem Winery in Sebastopol, California for a wine and chef’s dinner. La Follette has consulted for several esteemed wineries, including Flowers Vineyard & Winery and Hartford Court, and is known for his Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Champagne reception at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m., the dinner will set you back $150.

The second location of Sweetgreen opened in Dupont Circle, with a few WLDC authors in attendance, who I’m sure will report back soon on the new digs.

From April 13 to April 26, José Andrés and the culinary team at Zaytinya will celebrate Greek Easter with a special festival showcasing dishes specially crafted by Chef Mike Isabella. During Zaytinya’s Greek Easter Festival, Chef Isabella will offer holiday menu items – basically lamb a bajillion ways. You can snag a whole spring lamb, rack of lamb with smoked yogurt, a whole roasted leg, crispy lamb sweetbreads, spring lamb stew, and finally – lambs tongue. These Greek Easter specials will be priced from $9-$12.

Metrocurean has been doing Chef’s Five Bites all week long – I’ve been loving reading local chef’s favorite dishes.

And stay tuned – Wendesday I’ll be doing a huge Easter Brunch round-up/preview that will make Brunch and the City swoon.
