There’s a New Goalie in Town

Seems the Caps showed up in New York ready to play Game 3 and along the way, found their on-fire goalie. And his name isn’t Jose.

Rookie netminder Simeon Varlamov blanked the Rangers with 33 saves – he’s only allowed one goal in two games now – as Alexander Semin netted two on his way to a three point night. Alex Ovechkin continued to remain goal-less, but assisted on both Semin goals. Result? Caps 4, Rangers 0.

The win guarantees a Game 5 here in DC and cuts the Rangers’ series lead down to 2-1. Game 4 is Wednesday in New York.

Having lived in the DC area for ten years, Ben still loves to wander the city with his wife, shooting lots of photos and exploring all the latest exhibits and galleries. A certified hockey fanatic, he spends some time debating the Washington Capitals club with friends – but everyone knows of his three decade love affair with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

A professional writer, gamer, photographer, and Lego enthusiast, Ben remains captivated by DC and doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon.

  1. Its hard to say after only two playoff games with Varlamov in net that he’s the goalie of the future for the Caps, but he’s looked fantastic when he’s needed to be. I’ll be interested to see if he gets a larger workload next season.

As for Jose ThreeOrMore… run out of Montreal for bad play, run out of Colorado for bad play, and now he’s benched in the playoffs for a rookie with half a dozen prior starts. Will anyone take a risk in the future on him? Will the Caps buy him out to give the net to Varlamov (or someone else)? After the shaky year he gave, followed by the Game 1 meltdown and the solid replacement job, I don’t see much of a future here in DC for Jose OpenDoor.
