Extra bad for your teeth

Now, my darling industry shill fiancée says “sugar isn’t more likely to cause cavities than any other fermentable carbohydrate, including bread,” but I suspect even she would acknowledge that a cupcake can do some serious harm to your teeth if you bite down into the two carat diamond Mervis has stuck into the middle.

They don’t really intend for you to eat it; the cupcake, created by Classic Bakery, is to promote their wedding ring trunk show. I’m going to have to pass, what with spending the 2nd actually getting married, but since we’re serving cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake at our event I called dibs on this item.

When I did another of our authors asserted that a different cupcake bakery was a superior choice. I’ll let her share herself, but what’s your go-to location for diamond encrusted pastry?

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.

  1. For Don, this will be repeat info, but Baked & Wired cupcakes are FAR, FAR, FAR superior to Georgetown Cupcake.

  2. I have yet to try either Baked & Wired or Georgetown Cupcake, but I do love the sweets at Red Velvet. Alas, none of them come with diamonds.

  3. Rebecca – We tried Baked and Wire and found them to be excellent. However, they didn’t seem like they could handle our custom order AND the clever way the wrap the cupcakes would have made it difficult to display 120 on a cupcake stand. Having said that, I did not find them to be far, far, far superior – merely different in an equally good way (more icing, for one thing).

  4. Don, I think you made a fine choice of Georgetown Cupcake. Love their chocolate with mint frosting. Of course, there are some cupcake shops I haven’t tried…perhaps a city-wide tour is in order!
