Rough Morning Commute Today

What a mess– two incidents are making for some long commutes this morning.  First, around 5 AM this morning (thanks for the wake-up text message alert at 7 AM, Washington Post), an accident at the 3rd Street Tunnel entrance caused some major delays.  And I mean major– according to WTOP, traffic is backed up for 24 miles (!) along 95 and 395.

In a separate incident, service on the Camden Line of the MARC commuter rail in Maryland has been suspended after a train hit a pedestrian.  Police are investigating.  In the mean time, Metro will honor MARC tickets from Greenbelt, and MTA is providing bus service from Dorsey, Savage, and Laurel stations to Greenbelt.

Did you get stuck in any of this today?  Let us know in the comments.

  1. During my morning run, I see tons of bike commuters and always get jealous. Sigh. If only my workplace had a shower, I’d be all over that.

  2. Well, the first train out of Perryville on the MARC Penn line was cancelled due to equipment failure, and (rumor) another MARC Penn train was cancelled out of Baltimore headed south. So MARC Penn 509 had to pick up 3 loads of people. By the time the train arrived at BWI, most people had to be left on the platforms. Like to hear from them.

  3. 395 was a zoo when I got on at Seminary Road (on the #8 bus) around 7:50. HOV moved along decently in spurts, but still much slower than usual, and I was sure glad I wasn’t in the main northbound lanes for sure- those looked pretty much stationary. Ugly day for transit- can’t wait to head home and see if its any better… :/

  4. I got hit with the bailout overflow this morning. I left my house just before 9 and it took me 40 minutes to get to the Roosevelt Bridge this morning, which was brutal! Ouch!

  5. I’m SO glad I moved into DC after commuting from Centreville, VA for 2 months. 10 minute bike ride downtown to work from the house, and 10 minutes back. I got 2 hours and 40 minutes of my life back once I moved….SO nice. I can definitely feel for you commuters though, I’ve been there
