First Couple Date Night

Between tackling the swine flu pandemic, appointing a new Supreme Court justice, saving the faltering economy, and walking the family dog, the first couple found some time to spend together away from the pressures of the White House.  Barack and Michelle Obama reportedly had an early dinner at Citronelle in Georgetown Saturday night, followed up by a private, hand-in-hand stroll around the White House grounds.  When was the last time you heard of a president and his wife going on a date together?  Did anyone witness the big crowd of onlookers outside of the restaurant?

Judging by the apparent love between POTUS and FLOTUS, this is surely not their last romantic excursion into DC’s restaurant scene.  We’d love to hear about some of our readers’ most memorable dates and recommendations for the Obamas’ next night out on the town.  Barack if you’re listening, I highly recommend taking Michelle to Lauriol Plaza for a refreshing pitcher of margaritas and queso dip some time.  You don’t always have to take her to a five star restaurant you know.

Hailing from the Mile High City, Max has also lived in Tinsel Town, the Emerald City, as well as the City of Brotherly Love. Now a District resident, he likes to write about cool photos by local photographers, the DC restaurant and bar scene, or anything else that pops into his mind.

  1. My boyfriend and I enjoy romantic dates at Cafe Bonaparte. The wine is amazing and the savory and sweet crepes are to die for.

  2. Tiff and I are big fans of Dino in Cleveland Park. The food is incredible, even if the tables are fairly close together.

  3. He’s gotta take her to Filomela so he can get his name on the menu.

Seriously, the food is really good, but the atmosphere is so over the top to be hilarious – makes for an easygoing date.

Ceiba is just straight up excellent, as well. I went there for restaurant week with my girlfriend, had the tuna with purple potatoes, crab stuffed pepper and asparagus slaw. Might be the best meal I’ve ever had.

  4. How did this work? Did they just get seated with everyone else (doubtful)? Did they clear out the place for them?

  5. I’m not sure but according to the Examiner, “Arriving at 6 p.m. for an early dinner, the couple dined for two hours on a menu designed especially for them, and by the time they exited at 8, they had some company, as a crowd of several hundred had gathered behind the police tape.”

  6. Yeah, yeah, it’s wonderful to see the “first couple” spending 100,000 thousand bucks while all middle class americans have nothing left after paying bills. Is that the “change” this country is looking for? Obama and his wife should be ashamed, and all those who worship them should take the blindfold off and see how this new “government” is destroying the country.
