Good morning, Washington! Did you have your free donut yet, today? It’s been a busy foodie news week, and for once I’m actually rested while putting it together. So, all the news that is fit to eat in the district, from the “flagal” to new chefs, and new menus. Let’s do it.

Asia Nine has debuted a new summer menu, and bento box lunch special, just in time for the heat and humidity coming our way. New signature entrées include Korean Sizzling Beef ($18), marinated thin strips of top sirloin steak coated with sesame-ginger sauce; Shrimp & Chili Sautee ($20), tender shrimp, finger chilies, thai basil, spinach, tomatoes, white wine and cream; Asia Nine’s Signature Thai BBQ Chicken ($18), grilled Thai-marinated chicken, papaya salad, and sticky rice; and Veggie Delight, your choice of meat or seafood, with fresh vegetables stir-fried in a light healthy sauce. The Bento Box lunch special is available weekdays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and weekends from noon – 4 p.m. Guests can pick from one of five varieties, including a Roll Combo Box ($18), Chicken Noodle Soup Combo ($14), Sake Salmon Box ($18), Shrimp & Chicken Won-Ton Noodle Soup Combo ($16) or Chicken Teriyaki ($16).

After a bit of turmoil, Redwood has settled on a new Executive Chef, Blake Schumpert. Guests dining at Redwood can anticipate new menu items this June, showcasing seasonal-ingredient driven dishes that will speak of summer. Prior to joining Redwood, Chef Schumpert served as executive chef of Richmond, Virginia’s landmark Millie’s Diner, a neighborhood friendly restaurant which serves high quality fusion cuisine with influences from around the world. Schumpert’s career includes experience in some of Washington’s elite kitchens including Ardeo Restaurant and Citronelle.

Work at a law firm and gearing up for your summer associates? DC Coast, TenPenh, Ceiba, and Acadiana are offering the Summer Associates Lunch Special. Partners can entertain their summer associates with this special: for $26, plus tax and gratuity, choose any appetizer and entrée from the lunch menu.

PS 7‘s has introduced a surprisingly affordable lunch menu. With prices equaling that of what I ususally pay at Au Bon Pain (all things considered), you can call in your (much better) sandwich at PS 7’s and have it prepared to go. Specials include Pete’s Deli Reuben (The No. 7), an Open-faced, with pastrami, house-made rye bread and Thousand Island dressing, sauerkraut and melted Gruyere for $8.50 or the “Primanti Brothers” Special, Our spin on the Pittsburgh favorite, with sopressata, fried egg, gouda, pepper slaw and topped with French Fries for $8.50.

Love french food and wine? Bastille is offering a new wine dinner pairing their signature french cooking with appropriate wine choices. Executive Chef Christophe Poteaux and Pastry Chef Michelle Garbee Poteaux have created a special tasting menu sure to please any palate from Housemade Pate to Grilled Branzino with Cherry Tomato, Orange and Fennel Ragout. The 5-course wine dinner will start with a reception at 7:00 p.m. featuring Bastille’s Signature Beignets and Gougeres paired with a white wine Spritzer of Pinot Blanc, Jean-Luc Mader, 07. The cost is $85.00 per guest, inclusive of tax and gratuity.

In, uh, bagel news, Georgetown Bagerly introduces the Flagel. WTF. Stop by The Georgetown Bagelry to try out Pizza Flagels, the newest creation from owner and artisan baker Mary Beall Adler. Pizza Flagels are a pizza alternative created on flat, nutritious whole wheat bagels. Alrighty. Give it a go, and report back, please.

In Case You Missed It Around WLDC in food news: Jenn took a trip to Policy and totally regrets it, I wonder if there’s any good food actually inside Union Station (short answer? no.), Acacia notes that the Red and Black’s patio has opened, I go off on a mini-rant about Gin & Tonic’s new boozy bus for interns, Carl caught some french bread that looks suspiciously like banana cream pie,  I make some recommendations for those of you heading out for Kid’s Restaurant Week, Acacia catches wind that there will be a new Rita’s Water Ice on H Street, Carl spots an inappropriate drawing on the RFD menu, Ben noms on the Big Mac for the Omnivore 100 feature, I tell you all about the beer festival Savor, and Blue Ridge opens in Glover Park.
