“The Rough Guide to the Underworld” is still going on this weekend, July 3 and 4, and next weekend, the 10 and 11, with a 7:30pm curtain. The show is a brisk 95 minutes, so you’ll be out in time for fireworks and everything…

Hey guys, I loved hearing all those great ideas for stuff to do this past weekend, but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for stuff for locals to do this coming weekend? I was hoping to do something fun on Saturday morning (the 4th) that didn’t involve getting too close to the Mall before we grill out and enjoy fireworks. Any suggestions?

Yeah. I LOVE action movies, but I thought Transformers 2 was a little weak. Although the mom was fricken hilarious, the second half of the movie got boring. The big, climatic fight at the end wasn’t very climatic at all, and it went on so long that the special effects weren’t really special anymore. heh. I’ve never really been a fan of the special effects shots, anyway. There are way too many close shots where you have no idea wtf is going on. When they had bumblebee transform like half way through the movie, the camera angle was from far away, and it looked gorgeous. I wish more of the movie had been like that. sigh. But yeah, I did have fun with the movie though…. I just understand why lots of critics hated it. Anyway, nice post. :)

We’ve got a theatre production opening this weekend at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop–also air conditioned–called “The Rough Guide to the Underworld.” It’s a D.C. premiere, will be running for three weekends from now until July 11th.

The script has been described as “…the Neo-Futurists meet neo-classicism, with Mamet jokes.” But there’s so much more. Rachael Ray, Mark Twain, deep sea divers, advertising copywriters, the Lord of the Underworld, a movie producer, even a troubadour who thinks he’s in a musical.

If you’ve enjoyed the Neo-Futurists’ “Too Much Light…” shows at Woolly Mammoth, then you’ll enjoy “The Rough Guide to the Underworld.”

All tickets are $10, the curtain’s at 7:30pm. It might be the most fun you have in an air-conditioned theatre this weekend. Or next. Or the one after.
