If you’re a follower on my Twitter, you’ll know about my employment situation that has happily changed this afternoon. Starting tomorrow, I will once again be working in downtown DC – something I absolutely love – and in a new area of the city. Which means two things I need help with, so why not ask you guys?

I need a nice morning coffee-imbibing place to visit and I need some lunchtime suggestions for some quick bites. Fast service, good food, and not the usual fast-food garbage either. My new employer is located near McPherson Square Metro. So, readers, help me out! Where would you suggest I go for morning caffeine and lunchtime nibbles? Who knows, maybe I’ll see you around!

Having lived in the DC area for ten years, Ben still loves to wander the city with his wife, shooting lots of photos and exploring all the latest exhibits and galleries. A certified hockey fanatic, he spends some time debating the Washington Capitals club with friends – but everyone knows of his three decade love affair with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

A professional writer, gamer, photographer, and Lego enthusiast, Ben remains captivated by DC and doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon.

  1. The Roasting House at Vermont & K is nice for coffee. The Juice Joint across the street, next to the Quiznos is my choice for good lunch food. Not the cheapest, but there are cheap chain options a-plenty. JJ is for when you’re willing to pay to not feel bad about the awful food you’ve just eaten.

  2. OMG BEN. If they are still there, visit the MoJoe Coffee guys across the street from the McPherson Metro entrance on Vermont & I. They are great guys, their coffee is good, and they will learn your regular in short order (after about 5 days, Marcus would see me coming and start pouring my Large Drip as I crossed the street).

Also, Tiffany’s right about the Roasting House. That place is good. Some days when you just HAVE to have that asiago bagel, you can run to several ABPs in the area, as well.

Good luck at the new place!

  3. I second the recommendation for the Juice Joint. My favorite lunch stop when I worked in that part of DC. Decent coffee in the morning, friendy staff and owners, great lunches. They’re at 1025 Vermont Avenue, NW

  4. Congrats on the job! It’s tough to recommend places when you don’t want your fave joint to get too crowded, so don’t tell anyone: Cafe Phillips at 1401 H St NW is yummy, cheap, fast and delightfully free of tourists.

And coming soon to the 14th St McPherson Metro stop exit? *5 GUYS*, baby!!!
