The Nationals fired Manager Manny Acta last night after a disappointing 5-0 loss to the Houston Astros. Acta will be replaced with bench coach Jim Riggleman after the All-Star Break that starts today. We’ll have a feature this afternoon discussing the Nats at the All-Star Break, and discussing all of the reasons for Acta’s termination.

  1. *sigh* Because naturally, this is all Acta’s fault. It has nothing to do with the crap pitching, the lame bats, etc… that roster is fine, it was all the manager.

Thing is we see this often with perennially bad sports franchises. Eventually you go through enough scapegoat managers/coaches that even the most inept ownership realizes that the GM made the mess. The Detroit Lions have been a perfect example. So, now the wait begins to see when the Nats realize where the real mistakes are being made.

  2. It’s not only Acta’s fault, but it’s Acta they can fire. But if Acta’s not motivating his players, then some of the blame lies with him.
