Neat protest shot

DCist told us about the planned kiss-in at the Tastee Diner last night. Photographer Chip Py went by to take a few pictures and put the count of gay and lesbians who showed up to lip-lock in protest at about 35. Either that one person was there making out with their own hand or Chip’s count is off by one. Regardless, I really like his shot with the selective de-coloration. Perhaps he can comment here – is that a simple emphasis move or a subtle commentary on the manager’s alleged desire to go back to the 1950s before public gay PDA was acceptable?

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.

  1. The manager was on TV last night insisting that the couple who sparked the whole thing were engaging in considerably more than some innocent PDA, and then noted that the owner asserted that he had surveillance video that would prove it, and it would be released today. Since he didn’t just HAND IT OVER to the TV stations standing in his diner, I am skeptical of this claim, but it’ll be interesting to see if anything more comes of this.
