Columbus Day Isn’t All Bad

Like many folks in DC, I am hard at work today, but it’s not been all bad. Working on some of the lesser-observed federal holidays is pretty easy for a couple of different reasons:

Free Parking: Street Parking is free today, so as long as you can find a spot, you don’t have to feed the meter, which is just glorious.

No Traffic: Seriously, if you didn’t zoom right into the city today, chances are that’s your fault and not the traffic’s for once. I was in the city today in record time, and that’s always an awesome feeling.

No Phone Calls: I think the best part about working in this town on Federal Holidays is the blessed silence of the desk phone. While a few people are working today, chances are? They’re not calling you for the same reason you’re not getting called. Who the hell keeps track of who’s working today? It’s a crap shoot!

Sure, there are downsides, too, but the upsides are there. What’s your silver lining in this dark cloud?

I live and work in the District of Columbia. I write at We Love DC, a blog I helped start, I work at Technolutionary, a company I helped start, and I’m happy doing both. I enjoy watching baseball, cooking, and gardening. I grow a mean pepper, keep a clean scorebook, and wash the dishes when I’m done. Read Why I Love DC.
