I’m a seventh level vegan.

I don’t eat anything that casts a shadow.

Meat-Free Week sounds delicious, but half the fun of being an omnivore is that you can choose whether to eat meat or not on any given day.

Plants are living things too. I don’t think it’s ethical to kill them either– So I’m not eating at all.

humane means “characerized by mercy, kindness or compassion.” those words don’t really fit with killing sentient beings, especially when you have so many non-bloody options. it’s amazing how many Americans blanch at the thought of slaughtering cats or dogs, or even horses, but think nothing of killing a pig or a chicken or a cow. What’s the difference? Tradition. Well, despite its popularity, tradition has never been a very good excuse for hurting others.

actually, killing animals to eat them isn’t really ethical, regardless of how they lived up until that point. oh great, you had an awesome life, i’m going to end it even though there are a number of things I could eat instead. I’m not at all saying you shouldn’t eat meat, because I wouldn’t listen to anyone saying I should, but don’t kid yourself that you’re ethical.

@Tom & @Katie, how it is ethical to end the life of a red-blooded being (that likely lived a miserable existence) to satisfy your taste buds? Isn’t “humane” meat then an oxymoron? Ethical meat is nothing more than clever marketing by agribusiness. Just saying…

Absolutely, Tom, I totally agree. I was writing a blanket statement about my views on eating, not saying Vegetarian or Vegan are the only ways to eat ethically.

You can eat meat without eating unethically. It’s kinda irresponsible to say that only vegan eating is ethical eating :)
