Some of these comments are absolutely ridiculous. Are you kidding me? Schools have been out for probably 10 plus days this year, some of which the roads were perfectly fine and you’re going to have a problem with shutting down for THREE feet of snow? I bet some of you don’t even live up here or the ones making comments aren’t going to work either. For some people it’s impossible as public transportation is closed. We pay taxes too, and the comment about taking work home, that made me laugh. Taking home classified material…mmm jail time anybody? Get over yourselves!

I really don’t see an alternative to the closing. Metro and the commuter trains bring in the majority of Feds to their workplaces– and they aren’t running. Can you imagine the nightmare of all these people trying to drive in during these conditions?? No, thanks.

Due to the inconsistencies of weather in this area, the state/local governments just aren’t in a position to get up & running as soon as those of us from points north are used to (I grew up in Iowa). Here, they don’t have the equipment or the regularity of snows to make this more a routine. I’m not blaming here, just stating the situation. Personally, even though I don’t have trouble driving in blizzards/heavy snow, the ice is a huge problem.

And I brought work home on Friday, but as small-fry is out of school until ????, I doubt I get much done. Stay safe, everyone!

@Curtis – It’s clear to me that the writer is only mentioning a fact that was reported by the Washington post (did you click on the link?) and not that people should risk their lives to go to work… and what’s wrong with being a transplant to Arlington anyway?
@bains – I don’t understand what you’re trying to calculate, but keep in mind that this is $100M/day in lost productivity and opportunity costs…

So how much more money is our worthless leader gonna cost us America you better wake up. Obama’s has us all in something we will never get out of. Clinton’s and bush sold us out and Obama is gonna finish us. Watch and see. Last of times. GOD HELP US ALL. We taxpayers don’t get all those luxuries of staying home while hard working men women and children pay for it. A life of politics has got to be one of the sorriest ways there is. It don’t even cost you all nothing. I hope you can sleep well someday.

Only costs tax payers 100 Million $/per day…if they stay home…hmmmm….this storm is saving us a bundle already. That’s only $36 Billion a year for them to stay home. What a deal. Is my math right???

I’d rather it cost me in tax money than my life. People in MD cannot drive in inclement weather and it’s best that we stay home! Besides, my brother works for METRO and he isn’t sure the buses will yet again be running tomorrow or the trains above track. Metro does carry most (was it 80%?) of Federal Employees to and from work… So no MARC, limited METRO equals alot of folks not being able to get there anyhow.

Hey, What are you talking… As a Fed, and also a Tax Payer who can’t get out of our subdivisions, not even to get public transportation to get to our offices. So give us a break. So you call yourself an arlingtonian, I bet you are a transplant to Arlington, and not realy a true Virginian…
