Washington Teachers’ Union president George Parker said on the Kojo Nnamdi show today that the union is “very close” to reaching a contract agreement with the DC Public Schools, but wouldn’t give a timeframe as to when a contract could be signed.

So, before the contract is signed, any bets on who will turn out to have sucked it up and compromised more?

  1. I will believe it when I see it. As a DCPS teacher for the past 4 years, and without a contract since 2007, the union has claimed to be “very close” for the past two years. We have also been promised more details and news on this “very close” contract since October, and have gotten nothing.

I hope whoever sucked it up gets us the 3 years, the length of our entire last contract, in retroactive pay.

Perhaps they should start negotiating our next contract now. If they do that then maybe we won’t get screwed out of pay we deserve again because our union is terrible, and Rhee has not made it easier.
