FilmFestDC started on April 15th and will continue through the 25th.  As one of my favorite DC events, I figured it could be helpful to list a few of the films I am hoping to check out in the remaining week.

” I Am Love” from Luca Guadagino is an Italian film that tells the story of a heated romance between the Russian wife of a newly appointed “Textile magnate” and her son’s friend.  “I Am Love” is playing at 6:30 PM this evening at the Avalon Theater.

“Holding On to Jah” from Roger Landon Hall is a documentary all about the history and cultural influence of reggae music and is playing on 4/20 at 8:30 PM at the Regal Cinemas Gallery Place.

“Saviors in the Night” from Ludi Boeken depicts the true story of Siegmund “Menne”  Spiegel and his family as they hid from the Nazis during WWII – kept safe by Spiegel’s wartime friend, his wife, and their Nazi sympathizing daughter. “Saviors in the Night” is playing on 4/21 at 9:00 PM at the Avalon Theater.

“Learning from Light: The Vision of I.M. Pei” documents the famous architect I.M. Pei as he develops and creates Qatar’s Museum of Islamic Art, which may very likely be his last major project since he is now 92 years old.  The documentary will be playing on 4/23 at 6:30 PM at the Goethe-Institut Washington.

** Not part of FilmFestDC,  yet still adding to the occasion, is the spring film series at the Hirshhorn.  On Thursday evening, 4/22, the Hirshhorn will be screening the Sundance favorite, “Lunch Break” by Sharon Lockhart.  Taking place in the Bath Iron Works, the film documents forty-two blue-collar workers through “unexamined dimensions of labor and leisure”. “Lunch Break starts at 8 PM in the Ring Auditorium.

Samantha can often be found daydreaming by the Rothkos of the East Gallery, sketching store facades along 14th, and snapping photos with her vintage polaroid at 9:30 club concerts. Since moving to DC in 2007 to get an MFA in Interior Design, her eyes can’t seem to be peeled away from the beautiful things in this city.
