Nesting Duck at National Garden

Duck nesting in firecracker flower bed, National Garden

This mother duck seems to have found an excellent nesting location in the Firecracker Flower bed right outside the National Garden, facing Independence Ave SW. Let’s hope she gets her eggs hatched and the ducklings safely through the garden to the First Ladies’ Water Garden without having to cross any roads or drain covers.

Roving Asian mendicant, can occasionally be seen wandering the streets of downtown Washington, muttering unintelligible gibberish to passers-by while pushing a “bag lady” shopping cart full of old blankets, American flags, soda cans, and healthy secondhand snacks from organic food shop dumpsters. Used to live in a cardboard box at 16th and K but the rent was too expensive.
