Apple Opens in Georgetown

There’s long been a gap in the DC area when it came to where to get your Apple gear: you had to head to the inner ‘burbs to do it. DC has been lacking an Apple presence, much to the chagrin of all the Mac folks in the city. Today, that changes. Apple opens their first retail store in DC in Georgetown on Wisconsin Avenue, just above M Street NW. We got a sneak peak this afternoon, so take a look inside for photos.

The store is about twice the size of the Clarendon store, and in a very similar configuration. Light wood tones and gleaming metal walls and gentle LED lights cover the surfaces of the store, except for the front foyer, which is brilliantly white painted brick, and the rear courtyard, which features the same white brick and glass ceiling.

The store will feature a new dual-Genius Bar configuration, the first of its type, about three-quarters of the way into the store on either side, allowing for differentiation of services between the two bars, for iPhone/iPod/iPad on one side, and Macs on the other.

The store opens today at 5, and the first 1,000 people will get T-shirts, and the first 250 people will get free One to One memberships. They’ll be open until 9. Check out a few other snaps below!

Geniuses At Work

I live and work in the District of Columbia. I write at We Love DC, a blog I helped start, I work at Technolutionary, a company I helped start, and I’m happy doing both. I enjoy watching baseball, cooking, and gardening. I grow a mean pepper, keep a clean scorebook, and wash the dishes when I’m done. Read Why I Love DC.

  1. It’ll be good to have a closer store, but it’s still not easy for most people to get to Georgetown. I’ve been going back and forth from my house to Georgetown over the past couple of days and the traffic and parking are a nightmare. It will be good for the students in the area though.

  2. This is going to be a shoplifter’s paradise. I hope their staff has all been trained in LP (loss prevention). If not, they are going to need it.

  3. I was actually thinking the same thing. If there can be a shooting at the Clarendon store, there’s bound to be some shit go down here. Tom, how many security guards are on duty? Just one by the front door?

  4. Just came back! Very impressive line that wraps around the PNC bank on M and Wisconsin. Lots of Police and even a handful of protesters. Working on some photos now.

  5. I wonder how they’re going to prevent smash and grabs at night with their huge glass window fronts.
