With Fall officially here two weeks already, and the brisk mornings of early October back as of this morning, that means we’re close to an opening of the Harris Teeter at Constitution Square near Union Station, right?

Well, yes and no.

We did hear back from Harris Teeter this morning, and they’ve set the calendar date for the opening of the new 50,000 sqft grocery store for December 7th, 2010 at 5pm.  This will be my new grocery store starting at about 5:01pm on December 7th.  It’s great to see another grocery store go into Northeast DC, along with the Aldi’s that will open in Starburst Plaza in Early 2011.

I live and work in the District of Columbia. I write at We Love DC, a blog I helped start, I work at Technolutionary, a company I helped start, and I’m happy doing both. I enjoy watching baseball, cooking, and gardening. I grow a mean pepper, keep a clean scorebook, and wash the dishes when I’m done. Read Why I Love DC.

  1. Harris Teeter is such a great store, but this is such a bad area. I wouldn’t feel safe shopping here a night. When’s the 3rd and H street Giant coming?

  2. Gail,

You dont know what you are talking about. Near north east, south of Florida has a lower burglary and violent crime rate than Columbia Heights.

  3. @Gail: That’s hilarious. I live here and there is FAR less crime than the area I used to live in in Columbia Heights. To be specific: There is four times less crime than in Columbia Heights. If that seems confusing, just check the DC Crime Maps: http://crimemap.dc.gov/presentation/intro.asp

@Tom: You are correct, it is a very safe neighborhood.

@NotGail: Have you been reading the crime maps? You are correct.

  4. I can’t wait for HT to open. A CVS is opening across the street too. Its probably a safer neighborhood now as there are two US govt law enforment agency buildings around the corner.
