Dave: While Friday night is dedicated to a brief happy hour out in Columbia Heights with a few others of the media world at Meridian Pint, I’m probably most excited for another weekend gig down at The Rookery with my band, The Greensides. In addition to the normal level of acoustic rocking you can expect, we’re also really please to have an outstanding opener: comedian Christian Hunt. And if you’ve never seen the Capital City Showcase host perform, this is as much a treat as anything. Once all of that winds down, Sunday is about recovery, but at least it’ll be during a field trip for tacos in Virginia to recognize the birthday of one of WLDC’s own, the great Tom Bridge.

John: This Friday, come check out my band Juniper Lane, headline IOTA Club and Cafe in Arlington. We’ll be playing with No Second Troy and it’ll be a fun night of rock and roll. We’ll be playing almost all of the material from our new record. Saturday I’m going out to Bull Run Farm to do a cider pressing as part of my Community Supported Agriculture program. Then I’ll be finishing up some raised beds and doing the fall clean up and winterizing and hanging out with my lady. Ahh fall!

Rachel: My favorite part of friend’s birthday’s happening in one fell swoop is that I get to bar hop around town. Sure, it eats into my wallet, but it’s worth it. The birthday festivities begin Friday night with a typical Adams Morgan “bar crawl” which will most likely include Millie & Al’s, Tom Tom’s, and Jumbo Slice. Saturday my time will be split between celebrating another birthday in Dupont at a to-be-determined bar and at The Rookery to see fellow WLDC author Dave Levy’s band The Greensides perform. Then Sunday, I’ll play the recovery game by taking a trip to Virginia to celebrate Tom Bridge’s date of birth with some of the WLDC crew.

Jenn: It feels like I haven’t had a vacation in years, and I’m itching to go someplace exotic. Thursday night you could travel to Morocco without leaving DC – join Nest and the Moroccan Ambassador at Marrakesh Palace for an evening highlighting the kingdom’s cuisine and artisans, including a souq! Friday night I’m heading to Mandu for some Korean comfort food – dolsot bibam bap and soju. Saturday rounds out the journey with a trip back in time to the Maryland Renaissance Festival for oysters and mead. I’m sure I can pack in even more staycation fun if I try hard enough…

Kirk: This will be my first weekend in DC in 3 weeks, even if I’m only there for a little bit of it.  On Saturday, I begin my epic journey home from Africa.  I leave bright and early Saturday morning (DC time), fly from Juba to Nairobi and then up to Amsterdam after a few hour layover, then after another lengthy stop, leave from Amsterdam for home.  I’ll arrive at Dulles in the late afternoon on Sunday, at which point I’m sure I’ll be panting for a shower and bed.  On Monday, I’ll hit the city.  I think I’ll be-line for a good burger, probably Rays, and then have a few rounds of real, non-African beer at Little Miss Whiskey’s or the like. Who am I kidding, I’ll probably crash at like 2pm from jet-lag.

Max: On Friday night I’m going to curl up on the couch with a nice bottle of red and watch some episodes of Dexter Season 4, a romantic date with myself.  But when the dawn breaks on Saturday, I will rejoin society by attending an artist talk at Civilian Art Projects and then hopping on a school bus to check out the much anticipated opening of the Artisphere in Arlington ($20 gets you in the door and all the alcohol you can drink).  On Sunday, weather permitting, I may go for a bike ride along the Potomac and hope that I don’t accidentally run into someone pushing a stroller, riding a tricycle, or generally doesn’t know their right from left.

Rebecca: After checking out Program A of the VelocityDC Dance Festival Thursday night, I’ll be headed back to the Shakespeare Theatre Friday evening to catch Program B. The performance will feature works such as Janaki Rangarajan performing Thillana, the Suzanne Farrell Balletperforming Tzigane, and performances by the Washington Ballet and CityDance Ensemble. Afterwards I’ll grab some later than usual dinner atMatchbox. Saturday I’ve got a midday footie match followed by some chili making madness before College Football viewing commences. After Mizzou v. Colorado, I’ll head to the newly opened Bar DC to grab some more libations and hang out with friends. Sunday I’m off to eat donuts, consume cider and work it all off picking apples and pumpkin finding at Homestead Farms in Poolesville, MD.

Katie: I love a long weekend, because then Sunday isn’t full of chores. Friday, I’m celebrating my birthday early with a friend, and so we’re going check out some newer restaurants I still have yet to try, like Casa Nona or We The Pizza. Saturday, I’m hoping to spend some time hanging around the city, maybe checking out the Katrina exhibit at the Newseum. I’m also in a movie kind of mood, so I want to see Catfish or Easy A. I’m also thinking the weather has finally been cool enough that a kayak trip on the potomac won’t be a total heat wave torture show on a river, so I’m looking at heading down to Fletcher’s Boathouse and renting a kayak to get my paddle on.

Tom: This is a weekend of preparing!  Both my folks and Tiffany’s folks are coming to DC next week to visit us in our house for the first time.  I have a feeling we’re going to be cleaning and decorating like our lives depended on it, so, look for us where you can find some DC decor, like Home Rule. Sunday night, we’ll take one last relaxing night out, just the two of us, before heading into a week of family time.  I’m thinking we’ll be back at Rustik DC in Ward 5.

Paulo: We’re going to the National Arboretum for the first time ever. According to the monthly bloom guide we’re in for meadow flowers, herbs, annuals, and possibly even a bit of fall color. Then on Monday, to celebrate Columbus, we’re buying a car. Sorry, Metro. Oh wait, no, not sorry at all.

Samantha: Finally back in DC, however, I will be busy working until Sunday.  Bummer.  The good news is that Sunday will be utterly booked.  I am thinking a trip to a local Pumpkin Patch, some grocery shopping at the Dupont Market, Thai dinner at my local joint, Rice. And of course, how can I pass up dessert at Pitango Gelato.  I also plan to buy an XXL Halloween costume for my dog.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Michael: It’s a British Invasion weekend! On Friday night, I’ll be at Liberation Dance Party for what is perhaps their biggest booking coup yet. Delphic have already taken over the dancefloors of Europe and the UK with their New Order meets the new millenium style; but for the Icelandic volcano canceling their big US debut last Spring, they would have taken over here as well. A band of this red-hot stature playing DC9 is indeed a rare treat. Do not miss it. 1 of only 2 headling U.S. shows. On Monday night, Gorillaz take over the Patriot Center with their multi-media, super-sized troupe of musicians. If you haven’t bought a ticket yet, what are you waiting for? Spectacle and great music rarely collide in such beautiful ways. Much more than “watching cartoons play music”, Gorillaz is a huge band featuring 2-members of The Clash for crying out loud! Go to this!
