This afternoon in front of the assembled media, Mayor-Elect Vince Gray introduced his right and his left hands to the audience. Gray introduced his right hand, City Administrator Nominee Allen Lew, and his left hand, Chief of Staff Gerri Mason Hall.  These are the first two of many appointments expected between now and Christmas to fill the various vacancies in the new Gray Administration.

Lew, before joining the Transition, served as the chief of the DC Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization, and before that was on the Nationals Park project.  For eight years before that, he ran the Washington Convention Center Authority, while the authority was building the new Convention Center.  It’s safe to say the man understands large projects with bureaucratic backers, which may make him perfect to run DC.

Hall, before joining the Transition, served as a senior vice president of HR at Sodexo International with a specific focus on diversity, and was active in the Gray campaign.  She served at OPM during the Clinton administration as counsel to the deputy director there.

With all the personnel changes, there is one spot of good news: we’re hearing that the transition is favorable to keeping Office of Planning Director Harriet Tregoning on, potentially with a promotion, during a Gray Administration.  We’ll see if we can firm that up, as well as get some information about a timeline for further appointments.  In the meantime, the Gray Transition has opened a new section on their website for the appointees.
