Nice profile from Georgetown’s Baked & Wired:

Born on 4:20, we celebrate the art of getting baked daily. From handcrafted baked goods to our amazing coffee bar…you’re never too old or young to get baked!

Baked & Wired has been serving popular handcrafted coffee drinks in Georgetown since 2001, and it’s been on Twitter (@bakedandwiredDC) for two years. The coffee shop has more than 2,000 followers, and tweets about everything from a new expresso machine at the store, to employee birthdays, to a new coffee flavor.  About a week ago there even seemed to be a fun Sega Genesis conversation going on.

Baked & Wired wins this week because of its hilarious Valentine’s Tweets…loved when the store asked “me” if it could “be the fruity pebbles” to my bam-bam. The winner:

I love hearing the different take that everyone has on the beast that is Twitter. Baked & Wired’s Twitter maven Alexandra Shinko tells me she just recently started using Twitter on a smart phone and CAN imagine life without it.  In fact, the face-to-face gal says that old-school communication makes for a better world, and that she would get rid of “the whole Facebook/Twitter thing if possible.” Bold! Shinko still uses snail mail (wow!) and makes hand-made invites.

“The world of web chatting or whatever is literally desensitizing our generation,” Skinko says. “This is why people shy away from one another, no one talks on the metro, and every one has to wear head phones. This is the kind of thing that promotes fear. At Baked, we feed into the hype of interwebs, but our main focus is getting out there and physically interacting with our kick ass customers.”

Twitter story: “I competed in a barista competition in Chicago back in January. I didn’t know how to make a mix cd (I still rock cassettes), so I used twitter to ask for help. I got a huge response and my cd turned out great. Probably the best mix of tunes in all the land. In a nutshell, my tweet twats saved my tooshie and I wouldn’t have been ready without them. I may hate the interwerbs, but I truly care and love all the PEOPLE behind the handles.”

Bottom Line: Reaching out to the real people after the @ makes Baked & Wired We Love DC’s Twitter Winner of the Week.

  1. LOVE Baked and Wired. In addition to fabulous coffee, they’ve got the best baked goods in Georgetown and beyond, even if they don’t have a reality show ;). My favorite is the molasses/spice cookie.
