Coming Up Soon on H St.

I love walking up H St NE. There’s always a storefront getting redone, a new restaurant opening up, or just some sort of action catching my attention in general. I went there yesterday to track the development of three restaurants I’ve had my eyes on recently.

We all know that a target opening date is often missed in DC, but I’m still hoping to see these three establishments open in March.

Starting first if you’re going east is Khan’s Bar & Grill, the new Mongolian BBQ restaurant at 1125 H St. NE. According to Craigslist, Khan’s is looking for bartenders and waiters. The outside looks ready and there’s a nice “Coming Soon” sign hanging up front.  Prince of Petworth hears that Khan’s is set to open mid-March.

Next is H Street’s new British Pub, The Queen Vic. I really love the red exterior at 1206 H.  Originally, owner Ryan Gordon told me that he hoped to have his restaurant ready by late February, but it looks like this will be delayed just a tad. Gordon says they just started the inspection process, which can take around two weeks. While construction might be done, the team now gets to decorate and set up the bar: the fun task.

Finally, just a few fronts down (and up) is Toki Underground. The long-awaited Taiwanese Ramen and dumpling bar at 1234 H St. NE is still promising to open soon. My guess is that the restaurant, located above The Pug, will announce its opening on Twitter and have a packed house the next day.

But a suggestion: as you anxiously wait for these three, why not try Tacos Impala? The pop-up taco joint started by Toki Underground’s Erik Yang and Troy Hickman will shut its doors, or I guess window, technically, on March 31st. So head out when you can for chicharrones.
