There’s a new bakery on the block in Ballston. Buzz Bakery is opening its second location today, and is offering samples of baked goods and MadCap Coffee at the new location.

While some of the offerings will be the same, there are several noteworthy changes and additions at the new location. For starters, there will be new breakfast pop-tarts, waffles, quiches, house-made ice creams and popsicles. Plus, you’ll be able to satisfy your sweet tooth at home with Buzz’s take-and-bake options of frozen cookies, scones, as well as sausage and cheese biscuits, that you can bake at home. Additionally, the bakery has a new and exclusive coffee supplier, MadCap Coffee, a small company based out of Michigan.

Having visited the Alexandria location before, it sounds like the Ballston location will be even better and will really take the spotlight with its new menu. I’m personally a big fan of executive pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac’s desserts, and I’m already drooling over the descriptions of what’s going to be available at the new Buzz–peanut butter ice cream with toffee and chocolate-dipped pretzel bits, seasonal popsicles such as kiwi-basil, grape-elderflower and strawberry-passion fruit, bacon and toffee studded waffles, and loads of other treats that are making my stomach utter demanding growls. If you thought Tiffany was creative before, it looks like she’ll be taking it to a whole new level in Ballston.

The opening of the second bakery is the most recent news to come from the Neighborhood Restaurant Group.
“We’re fortunate to be able to open a second Buzz Bakery. The success we’ve had with this concept can be credited to a devout following of loyal guests, for which we are extremely grateful,” said Michael Babin, owner of Buzz Bakery and Neighborhood Restaurant Group. “We want to expand on the upbeat experience that’s become Alexandria’s trademark while personalizing the space to the Ballston community.”

The new 2,000 square foot space will be open from 7 am until 10 pm from Sunday through Thursday, and from 7 am until 12 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The Ballston location is located at 818 N. Quincy Street, Arlington, VA.

  1. OK, so I went there yesterday and was very disappointed. These people REALLY need to learn about running a retail business: (1) I witnessed them being very rude to a customer who wanted to return a (2) dry cupcake that (3) had a hair in it (4) at $5.40 a pop.

Seriously, do they really expect to be a successful new business in the food service sector in a bad economy with such an inauspicious beginning?

  2. Ted, I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a pleasant experience at Buzz. I wasn’t there, so I can’t speak to this incident, but I’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences at the first location in Alexandria. I’d say give it another chance.

  3. I live next door … they r uber nice on the customer service and their food is very fresh. – Coffee drinker.
