Hot Ticket: Small Black @ DC9, 8/11/2011

The Monument Music & Arts Festival has organized to “engage bands and their fans in forward-thinking causes.” They do this through a series of benefit shows that raise money for progressive causes that the artists and organizers believe in and want to share their passion for with the audience – while also putting on a good show, of course.

Thursday, you can catch Monument in action at DC9 where they have put together a great-sounding lineup, getting together to raise money for Grassroots Reconciliation Group. Grassroots Reconciliation Group works with former child soldiers who have fled the brutal civil war in Uganda. They help to rehabilitate the young people, rebuild relationships with their communities, and promote economic, educational, and development opportunities.

As for the music, Brooklyn-based “chill-wave” four-piece Small Black will be coming down to headline with their hazy, dreamy, summer-perfect sound. With them will be two local acts: IDM producer/performer Outputmessage and Cigarette, a band that describes itself as “flower-punk,” but the City Paper labeled “laundry-room slowcore.”

Monument Presents Small Black, Outputmessage, & Cigarette
