We Love Weekends – Sep 9-11

Well, we made it past the soggies. Mostly. Capital Weather Gang says we’ll still get sprinkles and clouds through the weekend but after about 12 inches of rain this level of sprinkle seems like a cool and sunny breeze.

Okay, not really. But I’m trying here, people. So what do we plan to do with our slightly less damp weekend? Read on…

Rachel: Another weekend, another ballgame. It’s back to Nats Park, where I’ll be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For those interested, Saturday night is Danny Espinosa bobblehead night, so get ’em while you still can. Then, in between baseball related activities, I have some friends coming in from out of town so I’m hoping to treat them to something special even if it’s just a walk around the National Mall or a stop in a Smithsonian museum. I still haven’t seen the MLK Memorial in person so I’m thinking a walk-by might be in order.

Tom: There is SO much happening this weekend, I don’t even know where to start. Saturday’s got the Virgin Free Festival at Merriweather, and if you’re looking for tickets and a ride, check out what BYT, the 9:30 Club and Pop Chips are doing. You can still get in on the ride if you need just the ride, too. Friday night, I might just trek north to Charm City to see what the Baltimore Alley Aerial Festival is all about, since the idea of an awesome graffiti alley and acrobats doing high altitude work is really intriguing to me. The Nationals are home against Houston this weekend, and it may just happen that we get another Strasmas on Sunday, so I’ll be there, hoopla and all. Whew, I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

Marissa: My first wish for the weekend is that it stops raining for at leastone day. Friday night I’ve been tasked with leading girls night out for a friend who is new to DC. I’m indecisive on these matters, so bar suggestions are welcome (I’m sure there’s some place I’ve forgotten…). Saturday I plan on parking it at ChurchKey for a few hours to sip beer and listen to jazz because I can’t think of a more perfect thing to do. Sunday I’m looking forward to the 32nd Annual Adams Morgan Day, DC’s longest running street fair. Perhaps I’ll go on a quiet, solemn stroll through the monuments in the evening to reflect on the 10th anniversary ofSeptember 11th. Have a good and safe weekend, everybody.

Moses: Opening NFL Weekend kicks off tonight — not with the Saints-Packers game, but with my fantasy football draft!  Pre-draft “focus” begins with Bell’s Oktoberfest at ChurchKey and post-draft game watching will be with the Packers faithful with Leinenkugel Oktoberfest and a Monster burger at Duffys back room.  The rest of my weekend is spent drying out (my house, not my liver), plus a solemn visit back to NYC for my remembrance of 9/11 and tribute to 10th anniversary memorial ceremonies.

Mosley: I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve had enough rain to last me for a couple of months!  Here’s hoping the weekend gets drier, and quick.  And that’s because of the two big things I have planned for the weekend: Nationals vs Astros game Saturday night with friends (gotta get my bobblehead!), and checking out the Flea Market at Eastern Market on Sunday.

Huzzard: I am going to start my weekend off right with a nice big meal of Italian food at the Buca Di Bepo in Gaithersburg. After that I will be taking the wife to Jiffy Lube Live to take in a summer concert in un-summer conditions as we watch Toby Keith and Eric Church perform. One of these weekends I will have at least one lazy day, but it isn’t this weekend. Sunday I will be heading to Nats Park to watch Strasburg, Zimmerman, and the Nationals take on Brian Bogusevic and the Astros. On my drive home I will catch the Redskins game and hopefully be home in time to finish it off on my TV before taking in the adventures of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on another episode of Breaking Bad.

Fedward: With my future mother-in-law in town, the Social Chair and I have a weekend packed with scouting for potential wedding venues. Tonight we’re seeing the Mexican Cultural Institute and the Josephine Butler Parks Center before we poke our heads into The Carlyle Club, tomorrow we’re checking out Lincoln’s Cottage, and Sunday (believe it or don’t) we’re taking her mom to, uh, The Passenger. Other than that I might try to make time to go to Sandy Spring so I can buy a Stillwater Boat kit.

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.
