Redskins games have become the RGIII show. Sure the NFC East is still winnable being led by the 6-4 Giants with the 5-5 Cowboys sitting at second. This could end up being a season of should haves. The Redskins should have beaten the Giants, they should have beaten the Rams, and the should have put up a better showing against the Panthers. The Redskins have been in nearly every game this season and lost some heart breakers, and in every outing RGIII has done something impressive.

The microcosm of the Redskins drubbing of the Eagles was the six play drive in the third quarter that put the Redskins up 24-6 and looked to ice the game. After two plays that went nowhere and a false start the Redskins were facing a three and out and it looked like the Eagles were about to get the ball back down by eleven with plenty of time to play. When Robert Griffin dropped back to pass and no receivers were opened it looked even more that way, but then RGIII did what RGIII does. He broke out of the pocket and took off running up the sidelines for a 23 yard gain and a first down. Three plays later with still no one open Robert Griffin threw to Santana Moss in double coverage. The ball was placed in the exact spot it needed to be for Moss to box out the trail defender, come down with the ball, and turn and dive into the end zone to complete the scoring play.

For the day Griffin was 14 for 15 with 200 yards and 4 touchdowns passing and 84 yards on 12 attempts rushing. It is the most complete game he has had as a NFL quarterback and one that showed off everything he is capable of. He fit passes through tight windows where there appeared to be only walls and when nothing was open in the air he took it to the ground and made something happen. He used his feet to keep drives alive and his arm to finish them off, and with both he was able to force the issue and make plays happen where none existed.

RGIII will continue to get a lot of praise, but the big issue the Redskins faced coming into this game was the lack of a secondary. With Brandon Meriweather having missed all of the season until yesterday the Redskins secondary was lacking, not just a shutdown corner, but a breathing safety as well. Meriweather gave them that and jarred the ball loose from a couple of receivers hands and added a 25 yard interception. His presence also helped the secondary to play as more of a unit and the Redskins didn’t end up with their nickle and dime corners on the field and out of position in downs where they shouldn’t have even been on the field.

This was a good win for the Redskins and if they can carry this momentum into Dallas on a short turn around this week could get them right back in the hunt for the NFC East. Because of odd scheduling the Redskins still have four games against division foes and if they can make some headway in those games this may not be another lost season for the Redskins after all, and even if it does end up not being a winning or even .500 season everyone that has watched the Redskins has had the pleasure of watching the birth of the RGIII star.

  1. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!|
