It’s Time To Pay Attention To The Wizards, Washington DC

If you are like some of my Twitter followers, you may have noticed there hasn’t been a lot of Wizards talk lately. That’s because they were terrible. Heading into 2013 they only had four wins and were the butt of jokes around the league. Even perennial basement dweller Charlotte had a better record than the Wiz on January 1st, 2013 despite going on an 18 game losing streak at the end of 2012.

How can you lose 18 games in a row and still have a better record than the Wizards?

A start like this was expected. As I said in my Wizards season preview back in October, this year’s team has some potential if they can all get on the floor at the same time. It appears now is that time. This past weekend the Wizards beat the Bulls and have now won five straight at home. At 11-3, Washington are currently above Charlotte in the standings, narrowly avoiding last place. Perhaps that should be enough to gain them a little respect on Stub Hub.

It’s been an exciting build-up to this point. Bradley Beal is beginning to show his value and was named Rookie of the Month in December. John Wall returned to the team after battling injury and the team has been 6-3 since. Last week Jordan Crawford sank a buzzer beating Dagger of the Year against Portland.

Things are definitely looking up for Washington as their core group have finally come together. With Wall and Beal finally sharing the floor together we can look forward to a possible backcourt combo that will be able to win a whole lot more games.

While DC is excited they can Rock the Red once again, the city should also pay attention to the other team that shares the Verizon Center. At the beginning of February the Wizards will host the Clippers, Knicks, and Nets. It should be an exciting homestand and it’s time we get out there and see what’s cooking in the Wizards’ kitchen.

Plus who knows how long tickets will stay cheap.
