We Love Weekends: May 10-12

Joanna: Surely the clouds will go away soon; but in case they don’t, the EU Open House should provide decent cover. I’ll probably return to Czech Republic and Hungary this year – two of my favorites from years past. I’d also like to visit France and Germany, which are joining up at the Embassy of France. Later on I’m keeping up the European theme by seeing Twelfth Night at Folger Theatre and then The Three Musketeers at Synetic Theater. I ran into the cast of the latter a while back, and if their mustaches are any sign it will be wild

Patrick: Tomorrow I’ll be with some friends at one of the most anticipated new bars on my to-do list: Board Room. I look forward to drinks and Cards Against Humanity. Saturday I’m keeping a low profile for most of the day, I’m considering taking a girl out to a new speakeasy I just found out about in Eastern Market. Sunday I’ll be up early running the Angel Kisses 5K.

Tom: This weekend is the Great Brookland Yard Sale, so my neighbors and I will be out selling our wares throughout the neighborhood. There’s some sweet stuff in this year’s sale, including a couple houses dedicated just to great vinyl, so check out the sale highlights map, get out some cash, and head to Brookland Saturday morning. That afternoon, I’ll trek up to Merriweather Post Pavilion for Sweetlife Festival, because I want a 13th Street Meats/Toki Underground Pho Dog something fierce, oh, and to see Phoenix, too. Sunday, I will luxuriate in sleep and rest, and maybe head down to Bloomingdale’s new hotspot, The Red Hen.

Katie: I need the sunshine like a wilted plant. This whole drizzly gray crap is not cutting it, I expect better from you, sky. So Friday, it looks like I might be able to perk up a little, so a bunch of friends and I are having a picnic at one of my favorite picnic spots. Saturday morning, a running buddy and I are headed out to the national mall to pound out a good long run, then I’m introducing my college roommate and her husband to my love of Tash. He’s a big fan of Moby Dick and so this is about to blow his mind. Sunday, I’m heading out on the Capitol Hill House and Garden Tour because I am nosy so getting to poke around other people’s houses will be extremely satisfying. (And jealousy-inducing.)

Rachel: It won’t be a fancy or extravagant weekend but it will be a good one because the Chicago Cubs are in town to face the Washington Nationals for a three-game weekend series starting Friday. As someone who was born and raised five minutes from Wrigley Field, it’s always nice to see my original home team come visit my new home team. I’ll be at Nats Park all weekend so if you want to come find me and talk baseball, music, or … well … anything really, feel free to send me a tweet. I’d love to meet up with some fans prior to the start of the game or even after!

Fedward: Friday, as previously mentioned, the Social Chair and I will be at DC Toasts the Black Mixology Club. There’s been a lot of press coverage and I can’t link to all of it here, so make sure you click through to their web site to see all of it.  It’s shaping up to be a fantastic event. If gogo isn’t your thing, how about ballet? Following Friday’s performance of The Sun Also Rises, Museum of the American Cocktail co-founder Philip Greene will present a reception at the Kennedy Center Roof Terrace restaurant featuring Hemingway’s cocktails. He should know Hemingway’s drinks, since he wrote the book on them. Saturday I imagine we’re not going to do much of anything, but if we did leave the house it might be for the AFI Silver’s screening of Young Frankenstein.  And if we had kids we’d take them to the National Train Day event at Union Station. We’re also starting to look for a house, so Saturday and Sunday you might find us at open houses around the District, provided we can find any. After that we’ll surely need drinks, so look for us at the Passenger on Sunday night (as usual). One thing we won’t be doing, though, is seeing the latest Baz Luhrmann spectacle. We might make up for it by leaving a gin Rickey at F. Scott Fitzgerald’s grave while we ponder exactly how much Gatsby’s lifestyle would have cost.

Alexia: Thursday night I have band practice with The Torches, but if I don’t get out too late I’d love to check out Marnie Stern at Black Cat or maybe stop by the new Logan Circle hotspot Black Whiskey. Saturday night I’ll be heading to Columbia Heights for dinner with friends & then to The Dunes to see one of my favorite DC bands, Black Hills perform, along with Greenland and Filo Betto. Sunday is Mother’s Day, so I’ll be hanging with my mother – maybe a hike on Roosevelt Island if the weather is nice, and then heading to the National Cathedral at 4pm to hear my mother singing with the Cathedral Choral Society for their “A Royal Occasion” concert, featuring the music of Handel.

Don: Dog weekend two, electric boogaloo continues for me this weekend with Saturday morning’s Walk for the Animals out at Bluemont Park in the Ballston area. You’re cordially invited to join me (or just give money) in supporting this good cause and raising money for the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. I suspect that and subsequent sitting around and kibbitzing is going to consume most of my day, with perhaps a side of some home improvement work. Sunday we celebrate our first ever Mother’s Day from the other side of the job and the boy and I will be taking my darling wife out to Bibiana for a little brunch. I’m trying to be gracious in saying “we” here, but in our less than half-year with him he’s yet to pick up a check.

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.

  1. You actually make it appear really easy together with your presentation but I
to find this topic to be actually something that I believe I would never understand.

It kind of feels too complicated and very wide for me.
I am having a look forward to your next put up, I will try to get the grasp of it!
