STRFKR @9:30 Club – 9/4/13

Last night, STRFKR, the absurdly named and spelled Portland-based electronica group, put on an energy-filled show at the 9:30 Club.

You knew the night was gonna get weird – in a funny/ridiculous way – when the lead singer Joshua Hodges (aka Sexton Blake) walked out wearing what can only be described as the dress Norman Bates wore in Psycho; in fairness, Sexton’s frock was prettier.

As the band went through the core of their Miracle Mile album, multiple blow up dolls were tossed out into the audience and batted around like beach balls into the upper deck.

Later balloons poured out into the crowd, Furries (a cell phone holding elephant and a pair of bunnies) joined the band……

and an astronaut crowd surfed in a blow up boat.

All in all the show was good, but at times the transitions between songs and the band’s tightness seemed slightly off. They may been having some technical issues because during their encore, just as they were getting going, there was a major sound glitch. However, this didn’t stop the crowd and the band from having HUGE smiles on their faces and thoroughly enjoying the show.
