Tom: I’ve got a wild weekend of work this weekend, but I’ll be continuing my quest for a new breakfast place. My trip to Boundary Stone last weekend, though, was very promising. This week, it’s over to Rustik for some biscuits. I’m also looking forward to putting together my new garden frames and getting my new seeds in from Burpee’s. The garden season is coming!

Marissa: In addition to the copious amounts of sleep I’ll be catching up on, this weekend I’m headed to the International Wine and Food Festival. Rows of food vendors and wine tastings–it’s pretty much the stuff of dreams. Saturday or Sunday morning I’ll head back to Taylor Gourmet to snag one of those breakfast sandwiches, since last weekend they had run out. Then Sunday afternoon I might head out to Old Town, since it’s been a while, and stroll in and out of some shops.

Fedward: This weekend is pretty much a replay of one last September, so I’ll just self-quote and annotate: The Social Chair and I will be visiting friends near Front Royal, which usually means a winery tour. Past favorites have included Linden Vineyards (a Virginia wine pioneer and consistent producer of high quality wine – last time we didn’t manage to get by), Glen Manor Vineyards (check the updated where to buy list for restaurants and retailers in the area – I personally recommend the Hodder Hill, an excellent Bordeaux-style blended red), and Chester Gap Cellars (a place I’d go just for the view from the tasting room, even without Bernd’s excellent wines – last time we were torn between three Viognier bottlings, one from the nearby Boisseau Vineyard and two from Bernd’s grapes, of which one was oaked, and ended up buying some of each). If we’re organized we might even squeeze in a visit to a distiller or two (but Addison has now beaten me to Catoctin Creek). I should try to remember to bring along some WLDC business cards, huh. And then on our way back we’ll stop at the Apple House in Linden for some donuts (the Social Chair swore I had never taken her there, but admitted after we sat down that it looked familiar after all).

98/365-2 the Strathmore hall from the stage
courtesy of eschweik

Rachel: This should prove to be a fun-filled weekend, for sure. I’ll be starting off at Strathmore on Friday night to see The Grey Area live followed by an in-store performance by yours truly at Nana’s in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. as part of their handmade Valentine’s Day bazaar event. Saturday night some friends of mine from college and I will be celebrating a birthday in Adams Morgan with likely stops at Millie and Al’s and jumbo slice. Sunday will be time to sit back, relax, and finally finish book three of The Hunger Games (my latest obsession) over some coffee. Ideally, I’d like to head to BeanGood in Arlington but it’s kind of far from my place in NW DC. Who knows, maybe I’ll be feeling adventuress.

Patrick: My weekend is just another example of the wide range of things I cover here at We Love DC. Friday night the Miami Heat come into town and unlike other games of the season- this one appears to be doing well on the ticket front, so it should be a good crowd. Haven’t thought about my Saturday night yet but there are some good options, among which my friend Meredith over at The FFJD is throwing a birthday party at The Dunes and everybody is invited. Open bar anyone? Sunday night I’ll be seeing Really, Really over at Signature Theatre- a preview piece on that should be up Friday or Saturday. Nothing like basketball and theatre to make it a good weekend.

Huzzard: Guess what? I actually have stuff to do this weekend. It has been a long time I have been able to say that, but with Opening Day less than two months out and business beginning to heat up this won’t be the last time I get for the next few months. Or at least that is the hope. The first exciting and wonderful thing I will be doing is on Saturday I will be sitting an Open House at 3904 Plum Run Court in Fairfax, Va. from 2-4 pm. It will also be held open on Sunday at those times but I will be far away in my wife’s hometown eating lunch at Buttersburg Inn because it is Grandma Green’s birthday. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot but add three baseball game and now we are talking about a good weekend.

<img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6171/6138882801_179b84b1ac.jpg" alt="Photo courtesy of Michael T. Ruhl

Moses: a chilly weekend means indoor activities for me. Maybe Friday night includes making chili from my recent share of locally-raised organic beef. Saturday and Sunday are the International Wine & Food Festival, so I’ll be making a visit to chat with the many wine makers and importers. Sunday afternoon I’ll catch my Georgetown Hoyas (tough luck last night) beat up on St. Johns at the Phone Booth @ 1:00. Post-game celebration with fellow alumni at Matchbox! Bundle up and enjoy everyone!

Mosley: I have a friend’s birthday party to go to Friday night at Rocket Bar in Chinatown. Saturday is up in the air, though I might try to go to a few museums on the Mall; haven’t done that in quite some time. And February is the best month to do it; next to no tourists and very few locals too. And Sunday, I’m going with some friends to see Singing In the Rain at the AFI in Silver Spring. Not my typical B-movie movie, but I’ll be seeing it with friends, so that’ll make it f

Rebecca: Friday I’m checking out a preview for Gilt City D.C.’s featuring top Gilt merchandise at insider prices; tickets to sale are available at www.giltcity.com/dc at $10 for the first time slot and $5 for all others (FYI you have to sign up to see the event). After the preview, I’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day early, which in my opinion is the best way to it because you avoid the crowds, at Proof. As the winter weather has been so mild, Saturday I’ll be planting my tomato, pepper, eggplant, etc. seedlings for some indoor gestation and getting the garden fencing all in order so I can kick off the growing season early. Fingers-crossed! Sunday, I will continue basking in the glory of my Giant’s victory and prepping for the comeback of AMC’s Walking Dead.

Fojol Bros
courtesy of yostinator

Addison: This is one of those weekends that somehow filled up really quickly without me realizing it. Friday, I get an excuse to bust out the tux for the second time this year when I attend the Washington Capitals’ Casino Night charity event at the Alexandria Hilton. Unfortunately, they don’t have Baccarat tables, so I think my James Bond impression will be limited. Saturday, I need to run some errands in the morning, then I’m helping my buddy start to remodel his kitchen. Saturday afternoon is Woo at the Zoo, the National Zoo’s annual talk about their breeding programs and baby animals. Last year it was lions and cheetahs, so I’m hoping for pandas this year, but we know pandas aren’t Spices, so some sushi and Suicide Curry is in order. Sunday is adventure day. First, a stop at Bob Evans will fortify me with enough calories for a busy day. Then, its off to the Nation’s Gun Show at the Dulles Expo Center to peruse two football fields worth of guns, knives, and accessories. Afterwards, I’m going to be heading over to Blue Ridge Arsenal to test out any of my new purchases (God bless Virginia – cash and carry!). Hunting paper targets gets a little boring sometimes, so then its on to the most dangerous game… with some lazer tag at Shadowland in Chantilly. Sunday evening is time to relax and watch the Caps-Rangers game on the DVR.

Jenn: I’m starting the weekend tonight! Well, perhaps I started it last night, when I sampled three lovely white whiskey infusions over at Art and Soul – fig and rosemary, yuzu and lime, kumquat and star anise – each one mixed and served in jelly jars. I definitely recommend heading over to try Ronald Flores’ newest creations. Chef Wes Morton is experimenting on a delicious new dish with milk-braised lamb shoulder too. Back to tonight – I’m hitting the 9:30 Club for Rebirth Brass Band and intend to enjoy myself thoroughly. There’s lots of theater to be had right now. I’m off to see Synetic’s latest, Genesis Reboot, on Saturday, and if you find yourself out in Tysons, 1st Stage is performing Almost, Maine which should be a sweet pre-Valentine’s outing about young love. If you’re in the mood for drooling over sexy furniture, Room & Board is debuting the 2012 Collection Saturday and Sunday – follow that with a drink at the re-opened Bar Pilar (just drinks for now). Plenty of eclectic options for your weekend fun.

Brittany: Weekend theme: Femme-tastic. Admitedly, it starts by drinking whiskey with my male bestie in a menswear showroom at a little party at the Hugh & Crye space. Those guys are the best and I cannot wait to hear about their extended sourcing trip/holiday to Thailand and India. After that, though, there is a Tarts by Tarts party at Treasury Vintage. Friday night, I am delighted to be stopping by the “Cupid’s Not Stupid: Cocktails to Fall For” event kicking off the International Wine & Food Festival (not-so-secretly rooting for the lady participants) and then a birthday house party which will migrate to She.Rex. Lots of shopping on Saturday, between the Butler + Claypool pop-up shop and the Gilt Groupe warehouse sale at Long View Gallery. The majority of American vegans and vegetarians are women – and you can find us wrapping up DC Meat-Free Week at a get-together at Boundary Stone, after the Trash Cat Vintage fashion show and brunch at Mama Chuy.

Farmer’s Market – Mushrooms
courtesy of .lissa.

Natalia: This is a weekend for taking it easy and enjoying some arts. On Saturday I will go to the Smithsonian American Art Museum to check out Annie Leibowitz’s The Pilgrimage exhibit. Then continue to escape the chill and head to Poste for some french fare. On Sunday, I’ll start the day at the Dupont Farmer’s Market for weekly grub getting. To be the inevitable Sunday night blues, I am heading to L’Enfant Cafe for their incredible comedy cabaret performance nights and supper club.

Honestly, I’m not sure I understand why you’re reading this instead of being outside enjoying this beautifully abnormal day.
Honestly, I’m not sure I understand why you’re reading this instead of being outside enjoying this beautifully abnormal day. But perhaps you just can’t wait to make your weekend plans. Well we couldn’t (because it’s an assignment and I’m a whiney editor who prods people about it) so you may as well read about it. And then go outside. Seriously.

Brittany: This weekend I make a rare excursion west to check out the Tamal Festival at Richard Sandoval’s Tysons property, La Sandia. Looking forward to some tasty tamales and margaritas with a Virginia friend to celebrate the unseasonably warm weather. It is a big weekend for DJ nights too: I will be stopping by St. Ex for Color Wheel – a DJ night offering “the rainbow of grooves.” Who could say no to that? There is also ZOo00OOM! at the 9:30 Back Bar and We Fought the Big One at Marx Cafe to consider. Sunday afternoon may find me at Smoke & Barrel for some of their tasty and super crowd-pleasing brunch – they are the rare brunch spot that can please vegan, gluten-free, and omnivore friends with ease.

Joanna: It’s my birthday weekend! I plan to spend Friday with friends drinking Guinness, eating fried stuff, and then drinking more Guinness. On Saturday my husband Michael is taking a day off from studying, and we decided to hit up the museums we’ve been missing. I’ve yet to see the Hope Diamond or Declaration of Independence, which makes me – lover of galleries – a pathetic, backwards wannabe. So we’re going to remedy that and catch a few obscure galleries, too. We may turn so touristy that we go ice skating afterward. Saturday night what I’d like to be doing is seeing Genesis Reboot at Synetic but dang it that hasn’t opened yet, so I’m still deciding – but it will probably involve tapas. And on Sunday we’re watching the Super Bowl with friends over my favorite mac and cheese. This year Michael might experiment by adding bacon. Suck it, resolutions!

Mosley: Quiet weekend for me; I’m still recovering from my birthday last weekend. I’m hoping that the weather stays good for Friday night, because I’m thinking of going on a nice photo walk through town. I might even lug my tripod around for some long exposure, night shots! Saturday I’d like to go and see the Maltese Falcon playing at the American History Museum. The museum is doing a Humphrey Bogart film festival this weekend to celebrate the opening of their new theater. I’d prefer to see Casablanca on Friday, but it’s sold out. That night I’m having dinner with my family at Toscana Cafe near Union Station. Sunday…I’ll probably watch the game somewhere but I really could care about the outcome, or the commercials.

Rachel: The first weekend of February should prove to be a good one! I’m gonna kick things off by catching up with an old friend around the Tenleytown area. Maybe we’ll hit up Public Tenley … not sure where we’ll end up yet though. Saturday will be my first live performance of 2012. It’ll be at my alma mater American University in the Tavern. Doors open at 1, show starts at 1:15, and I’ll be playing until around 2 p.m. The best part is that it’s f-r-e-e! Then, Sunday is the Super Bowl, so I’ll be hulled up at Ragtime in Arlington watching my friends from New York root for their beloved Giants.

Fedward: Saturday night the Social Chair and I will be hobnobbing at the Zinoplex during the Studio Theatre’s annual gala. Last year I had a ring in my pocket I never got the chance to produce (and oh, the awkward conversation with a particular flirty/pushy board member – some of you will know who I mean); this year that ring is on her finger and we’ve got a date set, so I can already predict how our conversations will go (the aforementioned board member should approve). Sunday we’ll stop by the Passenger for our usual brunch, and maybe swing by the new Odd Bar at Eventide.

Jenn: Like Joanna, it’s my birthday weekend, and I’m in search of some Zen. Perhaps I’ll wander over to the Phillips to continue my Rothko research after having seen Red last week, also catching the new photography and painting exhibit opening Saturday which features photos snapped by artists like Bonnard. More passionate art could include Federico Garcia Lorca’s hauntingly poetic play Blood Wedding, as Constellation Theatre Company’s production opens tonight. But who am I kidding, I’m sure there will be drinks as well as art. If our winterless weather continues, Poste has a lovely thing going with its new winter cocktail menu out on the patio. Snuggle under a cosy blanket with your lover and sip some bacon-infused bourbon hot chocolate or mulled wine while fondue bubbles seductively. Yeah, that kind of artsy weekend.

Mosley: Birthday weekend! And I plan on starting the festivities tonight: it’s the last night to see Girl With the Dragon Tattoo at the Lincoln Theatre. I’ve never been in the theater and I’m interested in seeing the space more than the movie. Saturday day I’m planning on leaving up in the air: maybe I’ll hit Chocolate City Brewery and DC Brau’s growler hours; or maybe I’ll spend the day walking around somewhere new to take pictures; or maybe something else I haven’t thought of yet. I don’t know! But Saturday night will be at the Hamilton for my birthday party; I rather like the space, and they have a beer and food menu to m y liking, though I hope their service has improved since I was last in there. Sunday, my actual birthday, the city is actually throwing me a parade. Well, officially it has something to do with the “Lunar New Year,” whatever that is; but unofficially it’s a parade for me in Chinatown. I go every year to take photos and it’s a ton of fun.

courtesy of Calgary Reviews

Alexia: Starting out my weekend rocking for a good cause at Comet Ping Pong’s “D.C. Hearts Jonathan Toubin Benefit Show & Dance Party” featuring Chain and the Gang and others. Saturday, weather permitting I’ll be running on the W & OD trail as part of my training for the Ukrops Monument Avenue 10k in Richmond in March. Saturday evening I’ll be checking out the Sichuan hot pot offerings at Mala Tang in Arlington with some friends for dinner. Sunday- hoping for a day of rest, but if anyone knows a good brunch place in Arlington, I’m taking suggestions.

courtesy of Edward Hoover

Tom: Roller Derby! Woo! We’ve been invited to join the dc rollergirls for Saturday’s bout at the Armory and hope to attend. We’ll likely hit up dinner on Barracks Row ahead, so suggestions are welcome. Sunday I’ll be grabbing a Bikeshare ride to cover some ground, perhaps all the way up to Ballston!

Don: We’re going low-key this weekend, but our one confirmed plan is catching Two Gentlemen from Verona from STC on Sunday night. There’s been some great deals on tickets and some great buzz, including from our own usually-trustworthy Jenn.

Fedward: I’m going to set up camp at the AFI Silver for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, My Week With Marilyn, and The Artist, and then celebrate the Social Chair’s return from her two weeks of overwork with a nice brunch at the Passenger on Sunday.

courtesy of NataliaMoreno

Jenn: Spike Gjerde of Baltimore’s Woodberry Kitchen is doing wonderfully elegant things with local ingredients at Rogue24 this week as part of the ongoing Rogue Sessions. Natalia and I were treated to a taste last night, and I highly recommend a visit this weekend. As an added bonus, the paired cocktails are pretty stellar – including the “orris julius” created by lead bartender Bryan Tetorakis featuring nasturtium and orris root, making for a very lovely floral concoction indeed. I’m starting to feel like the quirky warehouse is one of my favorite spots in DC…

Natalia: It was quite the week for dragon feasting. From Toki Underground to Rogue 24, the Year of the Dragon has never tasted so good. And it is only going to continue into the weekend, with a massive parade on Sunday through Chinatown, I plan on stopping by Chinatown Coffee Co who will be offering a DC Brau Happy Hour and a warm escape. And maybe throw in some dumplings for good measure at Ping Pong.

courtesy of Chris Rief aka Spodie Odie

Brittany: This weekend is sort of a gradient that starts out classy but slides to sloppy and rock and roll by the end – which is pretty much my favorite. Friday night, I will be meeting a boy for a fancy dinner at a restaurant which has just brought on a new chef – though, to be fair, I have never actually been there before, so it will all be new to me. (Attire: Cute dress, tall heels – science be damned.) Saturday evening will be an interesting trick as I attend the Jeff Mangum show at the Lincoln Theatre and then, as the closing notes ring, dart around the corner to the Black Cat for the Sockets Records Showcase. (Attire: Wooly 90s emo sweater, big music blogger eyeglasses.) Sunday I have big plans for hanging out, grabbing a croissant from Seasonal Pantry, and then seeing my current favorite of my friends’ bands play hard and fast at Velvet Lounge. (Attire: Dark colors to avoid any blood spots when the singer hits himself with mic to end set, skirt, boots.)

Rebecca: On the bus ride to work this week, I saw a billboard for the National Building Museum’s current exhibit Unbuilt Washington, which reveals the Washington that could have been by presenting architectural and urban design projects that were proposed but, for widely varied reasons, never executed. This sounds A-MAZING. So that’s really the only activity on my weekend list besides sleeping, eating and doing laundry.

Mosley: A two day weekend…how did we get by with only two days off again? Anyways, this weekend is actually pretty open for me, except for one thing. I have this thing where I like to see bad movies; not Sharktopus bad, but more like major studio production bad. And since it is January, one of the months out of the year devoted to bad movies, I have my bad movie of the year all picked out: Underworld: Awakening. I expect cheesiness, bad writing, and plot holes large enough to drive a truck through; it will be awesome, in a bad way!

Rachel: A friend of mine from college his making her triumphant return to the District this weekend which means we’ll be taking a trip to her favorite spot in town … Churchkey! Otherwise, I’m working all weekend out in Crystal City so I’m thinking of stopping off at Jaleo for tapas and sangria at some point. Or maybe a quick trip to Buffalo Wild Wings? Either way, there will be a stop at Pentagon City Mall for some window shopping.

Marissa: This weekend is a crazy one with out of town friends and a slew of birthday outings, so these are my weekend plans idealized. Saturday afternoon I plan on checking out the debut of the new Annie Leibovitz exhibit at the Smithsonian. If I were you, I’d definitely make sure I was at DCCK’s Saturday Night Sips, with the likes of famous foodies such as Jose Andres, Joan Nathan, Alice Waters and plenty of DC’s top chefs. Sunday morning maybe I’ll hit up The Hamilton for some brunch and to check out their huge space since I have yet to go.

Moses: at long last, a weekend in the city! Lots of indoor activities to keep me busy, including Georgetown hosting Rutgers at noon Saturday at the Phone Booth. Hopefully they can build off their win over DePaul to clobber the Scarlet Knights. Sunday is a visit across the river to the Inaugural Crystal City 1K Beer Walk, hosted by Washington Wine Academy — they just posted a special Sunday “Game Day Rate” of $20 (w/o t-shirt), which is considerate of them because I’m watching the Ravens step up against New England at 3:00. Will it be Flacco’s last game as a Raven? Hopefully not this year!

Jenn: There are still a few seats left at Rogue24 for guest chef Tim Byres’ stint this week at the restaurant’s ongoing Rogue Sessions – while RJ Cooper recovers from surgery (and there’s always the salon for a la carte, if you prefer). I was lucky to meet Byres earlier this week and watch his mad grilling skills on a wood fire Grillworks Asador 42 (full disclosure: the grill owner is a good friend) – both gracious and talented, I highly recommend checking out what the chef from Dallas’ SMOKE brings to DC. There’s also an Ibero-American Film Showcase kicking off tonight (free admission!), and the 8th Annual Winter Concert of the 18th Street Singers both Friday and Saturday nights, tackling some deep themes with beautiful choral music inspired by times of conflict. Food, culture, song – the makings of a great weekend!

Natalia: It seems to be the weekend of visitors, so will be headed to some favorite spots including Estadio and the Gibson for great grub, solid drinks but even better company. Sunday I’ll head to the Dupont Farmer’s Market followed by an afternoon at the Phillips Collection to escape the cold. And why not start the weekend early? Black Cat is having a Liftoff album release party tonight, and if you are feeling a little bit of country the 930 club has The Morrison Brothers Band in.

Addison: Ah, yet another glorious three-day weekend (praise Tebow for my government work schedule). Don’t have a whole lot on the schedule for once, which is nice. Friday, I am continuing on my quest towards better health with my first annual physical in a few years (joy). It looks like Saturday is going to be dreary and wet, which, while detrimental to my running schedule, is going to be very conducive to me catching up on some old shows that have just been released on Netflix (Sons of Anarchy). Saturday is also when I will be attending the first Beer Academy hosted by Greg Engert at Rustico Arlington (http://rusticorestaurant.com/events/events.html). Saturday night is date night, and that means one of my favorite places, both for atmosphere and dietary requirements: Mala Tang (http://www.mala-tang.com/), the Chinese hot pot restaurant in Arlington. Sunday combines three of my favorite things: brunch, football and hockey. As such, you can find me at Front Page Arlington with one of the best bartenders in the area (http://twitter.com/cmarek) brunching and watching the Caps crush the Penguins (12:30) and the two NFL conference championship games (3:00 and 6:30), both of which should be entertaining.

Don: I’ve got company in town so it’s time to play tourist, woo! First up, the Newseum, where my darling wife and I get to use our membership admission for the first time since they were gifted to us from my brother, via last year’s Living Social deal. Other museum choices are still up in the air, but for dining we’re going to amuse ourselves by being sure to take our guests to one of the cuisines that DC does best – Ethiopian. It doesn’t sound funny till you realize one of our two guests is from Ghana. Poor guy coulda cut his trip in half, distance-wise. Oh well, Etete calls and we answer!

Natalia: 3 day weekends are good things. They are even better when you completely forgot they were happening, as was the case with me. So I’m having a stay-cation, full of cooking and exploring. Saturday I’ll head to Eastern Market and then the nearby Maine Avenue Fish Market to pick up fresh ingredients for a night of cooking. Sunday I’ll make my way, finally, to Old Town Alexandria. I am thinking Virtue Feed & Grain for brunch, then a little shopping, and I wouldn’t be opposed to a stop into Grape and Bean for a nice glass of wine. And because it is Martin Luther King Day after all, and I have yet to visit the monument that was erected in his honor, a bike ride to the mall sounds appropriate for his remembrance day.

Marissa: Oh that every weekend was three days. Saturday I’m heading to Ris to chat with executive chef, Ris Lacoste, and learn a thing or two in the kitchen (stay tuned for that Capital Chefs feature next week!). Saturday night I’m dying to check out Toki Underground once and for all. Then I’m thinking of popping over to HR-57 for some jazz since the last time I was there was way back in the day before they relocated. Come Sunday I’ll be detoxing from all the eating I’ve done this week with a little yoga and shopping at Current Boutique over on 14th street. Monday is mine, all mine, to be completely unplanned and see where the holiday takes me.

Mosley: Three day weekend! We haven’t had that in a week or two. Friday night I have a friend’s birthday party along H Street; the plans are to at least stop in at the Queen Vic, and possibly more spots along the corridor. Saturday I’m thinking of going up to U Street to finally check out the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum; I’ve been wanting to check both out for some time, but I keep getting sidetracked. Then on Sunday I’m going to try and check out the Flea Market at Eastern Market; mainly it’s to get back into the groove of taking photos, which I’ve taken a break over the past few months.

courtesy of Timothy Forbes

Joanna M: This Saturday I’m catching up on a seriously belated art trip to the Corcoran to see their 30 Americans exhibit and Hank Willis Thomas: Strange Fruit before both close on MLK Day. (The museum is open on Monday and free if you happen to be off work.) In the afternoon, I’m running in a tights-buying marathon against my Christmas money, and losing is not an option. Saturday night the hubs and I are taking a risk on a Groupon at Marrakech in Adams Morgan, followed by Muppets 3D or maybe Beauty and the Beast 3D or hell maybe both and some headache meds. Sunday I plan to do almost nothing, although a trip to Mom’s is in order for some kosher chicken. And since Monday is technically a weekend for my studious better half, I’ll probably take some time for a brunch with him at oh, let’s say Bayou Bakery.

Tom: I for one love this new warmer winter that we’ve got going on! While we’ll be headed to snowy Pittsburgh for the early part of the weekend, I’m hoping that when I get home on Monday I can ride up to the northern end of the MBT on a bikeshare ride, as I have yet to see that part of the trail. Also, depending on if DCBOEE has certified the vacancy for Harry Thomas’ seat, you’ll likely catch me out on the streets engaged in retail politics.

courtesy of Kevin H.

Rachel: I’m working on putting the final touches on my songs for my new album so I’ll most likely be setting up shop at Soho Tea & Coffee to get some solid work done before any leisurely activities take place. It’s been awhile since I’ve done brunch so I’m looking forward to treating myself and stopping off at Kramer’s for a nosh. My ultimate goal is to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D, though. I know it’s playing at the Gallery Place theater. The child inside of me is very much looking forward to it.

Fedward: The Social Chair’s two jobs are both entering crunch time in completely different ways, so this is the first of two consecutive bachelor weekends for me. As such I’m at loose ends, but thanks to my employer I don’t have Monday to worry about (boo!). I’ll probably go on a tour visiting some of our bartender friends, since one seat at the bar is always easier to find than two together. Look for me at any of American Ice Company, Bourbon, Columbia Firehouse, Dino, Estadio, Fiola (can’t forget Jeff), and Gina at PS7’s (you knew I’d have to jump ahead at some point), or her old stomping grounds Rasika (bartender: Jason Strich) or Chantal Tseng at the Tabard Inn (and with that twofer I’m done). And, of course, the Passenger on Sunday night, where I might actually get the chance to catch up with my fiancée.

Alexia: It is crazy but I forgot it was a three-day weekend. Bonus! Friday night I hope to find my way over to U Street Music Hall for some DJ magic from my local favorites Volta Bureau and London DJ Rory Phillips. Saturday if I play my cards right I can make it to what sounds to be an amazing event, Bluebrain’s Final Boombox Walk at the US Botanical Garden (a truly beautiful, magical spot to visit any time!), at 3pm, and still have enough time to get myself over to Black Cat by 6pm for the sold out Cults early show! Sunday is band practice for The Torches, but since I don’t have to get up early on Monday morning I may head late night to DC9 for a dance party. Monday I hope to get a start on some spring cleaning! I can dream, right

Well, you made it through the holidays. Congratulations. From the looks of it, every single one of you made a new year’s resolution to get into better shape and are now working out at my gym. I’ll enjoy having you around for the next few weeks and hope you keep in touch come February. Now get off the damned stationary bike.

Marissa: Between the holidays and hibernating like a bear for winter, it’s been a while since I’ve really been out and about. I’m kicking off my Saturday with dim sum brunch at The Source by Wolfgang Puck. Definitely looking forward to a breakfast of champions with the dumplings I made with chef Scott Drewno ages ago. Then it’s off to see Billy Elliot at the Kennedy Center before their final performances next weekend. Keeping Sunday low-key, I plan to check out the places that sadly announced they’re shutting their doors soon–Melody Records in Dupont Circle and Penn Camera. Then end on a positive note by grabbing a bite at the newly opened Taylor Gourmet on 14th Street.

Joanna: Apparently there’s still one weekend’s worth of holiday cheer left in DC. That would explain why I’m going to both a belated Chanukah party and post-holiday party on Sunday. To prepare for the revelry, I’ll be hitting the Mt. Vernon Trail on Saturday morning and visiting the National Gallery of Art to see, among other things, their Text as Inspiration exhibit before it closes. Then if there’s time, it’s lunch in Foggy Bottom (not sure where – send recs!) to refuel for the matinee of Billy Elliot at the Kennedy Center. Before Chanukah re-starts late Saturday night, I’ll be joining my dad for a drink and cigar at Shelly’s Back Room, and hopefully my law student husband will take a study break to join us so I don’t look like a hooker. Maybe my frog hat from the Global Exchange store at Busboys & Poets in Shirlington will make that obvious, too… Happy Still-the-Holidays!

Rebecca: I’m dying for some high quality sushi and while it’s been opened for a while, I haven’t managed to check off Kushi from my DC bucket list, so that’s on the docket for Friday evening. Saturday I’m off to IKEA and Home Depot for some shelving and apartment decorations (maybe Bed, Bath and Beyond, I don’t know. I don’t know if we’ll have enough time). That evening I’ll catch The Artist at the Landmark E Street Cinema and then hit PROOF for some wine, cheese and charcuterie. Sunday, it’s been too long since my last excursion to Eastern Market and as I’m in need of some small DC-focused prints/artwork, the Arts & Crafts vendors will be my focus.

Tom: This is a weekend for riding bicycles. Fortunately this weekend’s weather bodes well for the bicycling, but I’ll be using Bikeshare to go searching for my very own ride, starting at Bicycle Space, heading next to Revolution Cycles, and then to Capitol Hill Bikes, looking for a good commuting bikes. I want to top my last weekend ride of about 15 miles, and hope that I don’t get plowed down by any tourists.

Don: The holidays don’t fully grind to an end in our household till the epiphany, which we honor by having the three wiseacre men over for dinner. So don’t forget, Matt, Chris, and Hamp. Just kidding, I know you don’t read the site. I’m going to spike the chocolate desert with X-Lax and you’d know that if you followed my work.

Mosley: Christmas is the big family holiday for the Mosley Clan, so I will be camping out at either my parents’ place in Cheverly or my sister’s in Virginia. I always like to tell people that for me “Christmas” goes from noon on the 24th to noon on the 25th. It goes back to my childhood: by noon on the 24th, I was well on my way to getting ready for Christmas Eve mass, and by noon on the 25th, I was playing with my new toys, while my parents were taking a nap. And I’ve got to tell you, I got some cool presents as a kid!

I will always remember the times trying to stay up to hear Santa, only to fall asleep from the excitement (I swear I heard him one year). But since I’ve gotten older, Christmas has changed for me. I don’t get as excited; the big day seems to come faster and faster every year. But when Christmas does comes around, I’m reminded of the last lines in the Polar Express: “At one time, most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.” I know that most of me wouldn’t be able to hear that bell anymore. But there is still a very small part that hears it loud and clear. I hope that stays with me forever.

Rachel: My holiday is going on right now (Chag Sameach to my fellow Jews in the area), so there’s nothing too special going on for me this weekend. I’ve never visited the National Menorah on the Ellipse so I might just have to do that while everyone else is tucked away in their homes for Christmas. I’m doing my best to find some potato pancakes since I’m not much of a chef but so far all I’ve heard about is Firefly in Dupont. Otherwise, I might just have to head to the grocery store and try to make my own for the first time. I’ll likely head to a movie at some point, maybe see The Muppets new movie again. Either way, though, this is likely to be a weekend of leisure. If anyone knows of any good restaurants serving latkes, however, I’d be forever grateful if you passed that information along!

Fedward: We’re spending our weekend (the whole week, in fact), in the other Washington. No, not Chocolate City, the other one. No, not the city of Myopic Little Twits, the other other Washington. The one on the Pacific. The one that’s already a state. We’ll spend our time seeing how the Washington with a vote in congress does its thing, and try to become regulars in one of Seattle’s many excellent bars. Like Canon, or Liberty, or Rob Roy, or Tavern Law, or Zig Zag. Sadly, Vessel doesn’t seem to have reopened yet, but with only seven nights in town and two of those Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, five bars might be all we could manage anyway. Other than that we’ll spend some time at Pike Place Market, and I’ll make time to chant, Monorail! Monorail!.

Jenn: If I weren’t escaping to the rural wilds in search of a snow day (which I am, if you haven’t caught on), I would find myself torn between repeating one of my favorite Christmas Eve’s ever – sitting in front of the fireplace in cosy Tabard Inn, enjoying one of Chantal Tseng’s perfect cocktails, aglow with happiness after a damn fine meal. Actually, a gussied-up dinner at any of my favorite grand hotels – The Jefferson, St. Regis – would be enough to get me in the spirit. To counteract the elegance, a night at Theater J cracking up at the Kinsey Sicks would be a great choice if you’re in the mood for an overdose of subversion. Enjoying the quiet in my usually bustling ‘hood would also be fun… but instead, I’ll be in search of a dive bar in a small town for a nightcap, and I bet that simple pleasure will be just fine.

Brittany: I suppose it is time to get down to gift-shopping, so I am thankful for the proliferation of cool local shops where I can get everything done. First stop this evening is Nana for sweet lady gifts. Living in your hometown as an adult has its drawbacks, but one nice thing is not having to travel at major holiday times – instead, I get to stay home and old friends come to me; Friday, I will be gathering with some for beer and tidings. On Christmas Eve, the biggest thing going is the U Halliday Party at U Street Music Hall with all the DJs (and so many kinds of pho hot dogs). I will try to stop by after dinner with my family. I have no big plans for the rest of the weekend – just hang out with people I love, exchange some presents, and wish it actually felt like Christmas weather outside.

Tom: Who’d have thought that in picking California for Christmas, I’d be picking a place colder than DC? While I’ll be hanging with my family for Christmas, my heart will be with the new National Christmas Tree, I have to feel for the little guy, who’s clearly under a lot of pressure to live up to his predecessor’s stature. While we couldn’t bring a growler of DC Brau out with us, we are getting our fill of 1554 out here, so that much is good. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Blessed Kwanzaa, and Joyous Solstice to all.

Moses: the wife and I are changing things up this holiday season by hosting family from both sides! Since the DC arrival of niece Megan 8 weeks ago, that just makes it easier for everyone. Trust me, I’ll be ready for a vacation (and some beverages!) after this holiday week — hopefully we’re still talking to each other come our Dec 29 anniversary! With 10-13 people per meal for a week, I’m cooking family style foods that are easy to reheat, but based on some DC favorites of mine. Maybe a holiday meatloaf, (“Ma, the meatloaf!” – not safe for work!) based on the unmatchable “Kosta’s Famous Meatloaf” from the Greek Deli (Thursday is meatloaf day!) and/or Shepherds Pie, based on Duffy’s former winter favorite. Soups and Chili (no, not Chilis!) include my wife’s favorite, the Greek Deli’s Avgolemono (egg & lemon) soup and my brother’s favorite Terlingua Red Chili from Hard Times Cafe! Do you have a suggestion for me from a DC favorite? I’ll need some help — Please post the link in the comments below, and Happy Holidays everyone!

Well, we’re in the home stretch on that whole holiday shopping thing. Have you indulged your wretched excess? It’s also the time to be jolly, and by jolly I mean stuff your face with food and get fatter. Here’s what we have planned to do and eat. You?

Well, we’re in the home stretch on that whole holiday shopping thing. Have you indulged your wretched excess? It’s also the time to be jolly, and by jolly I mean stuff your face with food and get fatter. Here’s what we have planned to do and eat. You?

Patrick: It’s not only the holidays- but it’s the holiday party season. My office is throwing their annual Holiday Party over at Lincoln and if you haven’t seen the signage, the coverage, or the past reviews- it should be a good time. When midnight strikes at the party it will be my birthday so if you see me downtown afterwards say hi and I’ll buy you a drink- just say We Love DC sent ya! On my actual birthday I’ll be covering the first of two Wizards pre-season basketball games. There are still plenty of tickets for Friday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers- if you see me there, say hi and I’ll buy you a beer. Saturday night I’ll be exploring the mysterious NoMa neighborhood of DC- tweet me some suggestions and once again if you see me out- say hi and I’ll buy you a drink.

Rachel: My weekend starts tonight at the Wonderland Ballroom in Columbia Heights with Listen Local First’s inaugural DC Holiday Jangle. The night features live local artists and drink specials, among other festive things. Listen Local First is a “local music initiative devoted to building awareness and creating opportunities for local musicians and venues in order to raise the profile of DC’s local music scene” and as one of those local DC musicians, I firmly believe in its message. So come on out tonight, the party starts at 6 p.m. with a schmoozing session followed by music from 8 p.m. to midnight. Then, the music filled weekend continues Saturday when I perform my last show of 2011 as part of the Capital City Showcase at the D.C. Arts Center in Adams Morgan. The show starts at 10 p.m. and tickets are still available for a early bird price of $10 on the showcase’s website. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Paulo: It would be nice to go visit the National Tree and Capitol Tree this weekend, but instead I’ll probably be buried in classy high-end Christmas shopping at our local Five Below and Unique outlets. The suburbs are awesome. Don’t judge me.

Mosley: The Christmas Spirit is upon me! Or, to be more exact, it’s being thrust upon me by the fact that Christmas is almost a week away!!! And this weekend couldn’t be more packed with things to do. Friday night I need to get my small Christmas tree up in my apartment; it’s a personal failing that I haven’t gotten it decorated yet. Saturday is the busy day: I’ve got to go shopping to give the gift of craft beer (either a DC Brau growler or a Chocolate City growler; decisions, decisions); I have a group of friends who want me to take part in the craziness of Santarchy DC; and then I have a Christmas party to go to in my hometown of Cheverly. Sunday will probably be devoted to recovery. The Holiday Season is going to kill me!

Fedward: This is our last weekend in town before we head to Seattle for Christmas. And I’m getting into the Christmas spirit, dammit! I’ll be caroling in various locations this weekend, at Mt. Vernon Square Friday evening and at numerous stops on Sunday (look for us in Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, Lafayette Square, and the National Gallery Sculpture Garden). In between those, on Saturday afternoon I’ll be in the audience at a Children’s Chorus of Washington concert, and I’ve got holiday parties to attend both Friday and Saturday nights. If I have a chance I’ll also try to whip up a batch of eggnog.

Jenn: It’s no secret I’m a serious fan of artist Dana Ellyn’s work. This Friday night from 7-11pm at The Dunes, she and fellow artist Matt Sesow present their vision of a “degraded and totalitarian future” in Dystopia. NYC punk bank Drunken Sufis will perform at 10pm. If I know anything about this artist couple, it’s bound to be an insane party, so head on over, have a drink, and pick up some of their vibrant, politically charged work.

Don: I’m going to be recovering from a shindig of my own come Saturday so it may be a low-keep weekend for me. The temptation of Santarchy is strong; I haven’t been in 5 years now and it was great fun, but we have company function we must go to Saturday night. Confusing tourists on the mall is fun but the real joy is being part of the drunken yule tide which washes over the local bars once the sun goes down. Other than that I may spin over to the Penn Quarter area to look around the Holiday Market on Sunday.

Happy Holiday Shopping Season, folks. If you don’t recognize that thing in the sky or the feel of your skin it’s called “the sun” and “being dry.” Capital Weather says it’ll still be cold this weekend but it’ll at least be dry. What will you do with the time?

Brittany: This weekend is all about seeing friends (how, exactly, did I agree to six holiday parties?) – and buying gifts. Friday night, my pal Denman will be spinning future bass at the 9:30’s Back Bar (part of their new collab with U Hall) at a night called ZOOo00OOM! I do not really dig malls or mass-produced gifts, so Saturday I will be stopping by GRUMP Holiday Market and Cheap Art Sale for SMYAL for hand-made items and maybe the Thelma’s Vanity Trunk Show in Anacostia for some vintage finds. Along the way, I will take a culture-break from the commerce for Audio Warhol at the NGA. Sunday night, I will be out in VA for a Cricket Cemetery showcase (the label is run by a friend who is also in one of the performing bands) for some super fun “rock music” at Galaxy Hut.

Alexia: It is a music-filled weekend for me! Friday night I’m getting decked out in my new party dress and heading to the Kennedy Center for BYT’s “The Greatest Holiday Party of All,” featuring live music by The Dance Party, among others, DJ sets, and more. Saturday eve I’m playing Nerd Nite with my band The Torches at DC9. We’ll be playing 3 short sets in between talks on being a veterinarian, lemur poop, and pseudoscience and the paranormal. Sunday afternoon I’m turning up the class and going to the Washington National Cathedral to hear my mother perform with the Cathedral Choral Society for their holiday concert, “The Joy of Christmas”. If I have a free moment I’ll be putting up & decorating my Christmas tree while listening to Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas album, getting in the spirit of the season!

Huzzard: This should be the end to what has been a very busy couple of weeks. I had to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the in-laws and then started taking classes to get my real estate license. This weekend is going to feel busy even though it might not be all that busy. First on Saturday I have to help my wife deliever a wedding cake to the District for her work. Then after that she will be taking my car home as I am to stay in the District to cover the Khan v. Peterson prizefight. Sunday will be what my Sunday’s have typically been as I will watch the Redskins take on Tom Brady and the Patriots. After all of that is over I will then study for my final in the real estate classes even though I have forgotten how to study.

Patrick: Is anybody excited for the start of Wizards training camp on Friday? I am- I’ll be working this weekend on my post-lockout Wizards mega post so stay tuned for that. I’ll also be checking out a couple of shows this weekend as well. Tonight I’ll be at Arena Stage to review their production of You, Nero and Sunday I’ll be at Woolly Mammoth to review Spoiler Alert: Everybody Dies. If you want some holiday fare I got a tip that The Santaland Diaries will have shows Thursday-Friday over at Fort Fringe. Of course there’s also A Christmas Carol over at Fords. I’ll be also taking in some holiday lights viewing up in Montgomery County- yes I know it’s Maryland but when you are rolling at 5 mph past houses you won’t get beeped (or worse) in the suburbs.

Rebecca: Friday I’ll be prepping for some extensive apartment painting by hitting up Home Depot in NE for paint, brushes, painter’s tape, plastic coverings, etc. Exciting! If I forget to pick something up, there’s always Ace Hardware in Glover Park to fill the gap. Saturday, I’ll be painting away, but when it’s time for a break (aka letting the paint dry), I’ll get out of the house for a filling Reuben at Breadsoda and perhaps a pint or two. Saturday evening, a friend of mine is hosting a holiday party with the entry requiring either a gift or $20 donation to Toys For Tots. Sunday, I’ll hopefully be finishing up painting and will have time to watch the Giants take on the Cowboys in NFL Sunday night football action.

Moses: Weekend starts today with a celebration of a friend’s new job offer at Jack Rose, followed by a birthday party at Science Club. Friday is the wife’s office holiday party, so perhaps a stop nearby at Maddy’s for a night cap. In-laws are in town this weekend, so after watching the Army-Navy Game at FedEx Saturday (first time ever in DC area), it’ll be family style dinner at Palena Cafe in Cleveland Park. Sunday before the NFL games, I’ll bundle up and get some winter gear I’ve been dreading to update — walking around local shops to hopefully buy local before hitting the online retailers. Stay warm, all!

Jenn: The weekend starts tonight, with a whole lot of theater – art collective Pepys Inc. is mashing up audience members actual Facebook data to create a crazy original theater piece at Artisphere with only two shows tonight at 7 and 9pm. The show’s called e-Geaux (beta) and premiered at the 2011 Capital Fringe Festival this year. It sounds like one improvisational wild ride. I also plan on bumping into Patrick at You, Nero and admiring his style. Since I’m not reviewing, I’ll be drinking. The rest of the weekend is a wild ride of a different kind, prepping my house for an invasion of baby shower attendees. Liquid libation will be much needed, so it’s off to see the wizard – Joe Riley at Ace Beverage – for provisions. Since my new juicer arrived it’s time for something with pears and ginger…

Rachel: I don’t know about you but that whole vacation I took for Thanksgiving left me needing a vacation to catch up on sleep from my vacation. (If that sentence didn’t make any sense then I at least hope it’s apparent that I’m still exhausted from Thanksgiving.) In any case, I’ll likely catch up on sleep this weekend and then head to Friendship Heights to see The Muppets (fingers crossed it’s playing at Mazza Gallerie) and grab a bagel at Booeymonger. Then, I’ve gotta head to Utrecht for some art supplies since I’m hand-crafting all my holiday gifts this year. Other than that, sleep is the name of the game. Sorry to be lame, D.C., but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

Fedward: You might already be aware that I’ll be at the Repeal Day Ball on Saturday night. Sunday afternoon, if the room stops spinning in time, I’ll head over to Jack Rose for Speed Rack DC (although I might have to look away from the bar backs if Derek Brown’s twitter feed is any indication). Sunday evening I’ve got a rehearsal for the caroling group Brittany wrote about (tenors are still in demand!). And since that rehearsal is probably going to be at the Passenger, you know where I’ll be after that.

Mosley: It’s a family weekend for me; half my family is born in June and the other half is born in December (I’m the odd one, being born in January), so the Mosley clan will be getting together for that. Other than that, I’m hoping to get down to the Mall and walk through some museums. I haven’t been through the Natural History or the American History museums in ages. And with it being December, and there being no tourists around, this is the time of year when locals can enjoy the museums! I may even try to catch a showing of To Fly! at the Air and Space Museum; I haven’t seen that movie since the early 90s. Nothing better than vertigo inducing IMAX movies!

Don: I’m all about the out-of-doors this weekend. Capital Weather says mostly sunny and mild and I say outside I go! Precisely WHERE I don’t know. Maybe a little Bikeshare, perhaps some Roosevelt Island. I’d thought my indoor activities might include a Rocky Horror outing - so I could see how much the shout-along lines have changed with the distance of 20 years and 1000 miles – but I was mistaken about it being the first weekend of the month. Local organizers the Sonic Transducers list next weekend as the next Rocky show. Dammit, Janet!

Tom: Weekend! And it’s a really big weekend. We’re picking up a whole tasty lamb at the Bloomingdale Farmers Market on Sunday morning, just in time for Thanksgiving. Add to that a brined turkey we’re grabbing later in the week. This is going to be a meatacular week. Add into that the final week of the 2-for-1 sale at Great Country Farms and you’ve got a fresh-and-local way to put some extra boost into your holidays. I’m stoked.

Mosley: After a week on the road for work, I am certainly looking forward to a slow weekend. Saturday has a demonstration of falconry at the National Geographic Museum; it’s connected to the Anglo-Saxon Golden Hoard exhibit. I love birds! Also on Saturday is a walk-through of Cardoza High School; it’s to give people a chance to see the school before it undergoes renovations. I’ve never seen Cardoza and it sounds like it will be a great chance to see the school and get a sense of it’s history. Finally, on Sunday I’m thinking of going by the National Building Museum and seeing the new exhibit Unbuilt Washington. It opens this weekend and it looks like it will be a fascinating tour of what wasn’t built in DC.

Rebecca: This weekend I’m volunteering at the Church of Annunciation Parish Bazaar, which features heavily discounted Christmas gifts, designer handbags and jewelry, crafts, and housewares (linens, artwork, kitchen accessories, etc.) Word has it that the Bazaar is one of the best places to buy high-end Christmas gifts at a fraction of the cost in Washington DC. The proceeds from the Bazaar go to the churches elder care In my spare hours, I’ll be hitting up Glover Park Hardware to pick up painting supplies and to pick their brains with my beginner questions on how to best paint my apartment.

Brittany: Tonight I get to see Martha Stewart in person. In my day, I have been in rooms with a half dozen presidents, scores of rock stars, whatever – but Ms. Stewart is such a major influence on me and seeing her speak will be exciting. Friday evening, Balam Acab is playing at Subterranean A, which is the thing everybody not freaking out about Martha Stewart is freaking out about. The rest of the weekend, I am in New York, so Washington will have to do without me while I drink all the absinthe in Brooklyn.

Ben: Last weekend before the holiday crush! We’ll be looking over our property and planning our Christmas decorations, then heading out to various shops to buy whatever we need. Of course, such an excursion requires a stop at the Christmas Attic in Old Town Alexandria (and a follow-up visit to the nearby Ben & Jerry’s). Sunday’s a day of rest, though we’ll be heading out to the Old Brogue in the afternoon to enjoy some great Irish food and an IONA concert to cap off the weekend. And in between all of that, there’s Penguins and Capitals games to watch on the satellite…

Rachel: This is actually a pretty big weekend for me. I’m going on my first tour as an independent musician and couldn’t be more excited about it. The tour starts tonight in Alexandria, Va. at Fireflies. My good friend and fellow singer-songwriter Dan Wolff will take the stage at 8 p.m. and I’ll start around 9 p.m. So if you’re looking to surround yourself with good food, good drinks and good music on a Thursday night, you know where to find it. Other than that, I’ll be heading to the Midwest via Union Station Friday afternoon for a 17-hour affair, much like my Amtrak Adventure last November, before it’s off to Indiana for a quick stint and then the Twin Cities for Turkey Day. If I don’t talk to you until after the fact …. HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!

Alexia: Heading out of town to play a couple of shows with my band The Torches! Friday night we’re playing a benefit show at Read All Over Books put on by Fredericksburg All Ages to support the Fredericksburg Food Bank! Saturday we’re trekking over to Charlottesville to play with DC’s Tereu Tereu and a couple other bands at the very cool/bohemian Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar. Sunday will most likely be dedicated to planning for Thanksgiving, hopefully swinging by Eastern Market to get some fresh produce and browse all the cool stuff.

Joanna: This weekend I’ll be in NYC for a reading of one of my plays. While that’s exciting there’s a lot I would do here in DC if I could. I’d start off at the Kennedy Center to hear The Washington Chorus open their season with the premiere of Music Director Julian Wachner’s Come My Dark Eyed One. No matter what city I’m in, I’ll be spending Saturday reading submissions for the Source Festival coming up this summer (still plenty of opportunities for actors and technicians). Saturday night I’d get all fancy for the Capital City Ball – one of the few places where dressing in a gown or tux can help stop slavery. And Sunday I’d recover with some old fashioned diner food at Bob and Edith’s before stressing over the Redskins.

Don: How tired are you of hearing about my renovation project? Not as tired as I am of it still going on, I assure you. I’m going to flee the hard-hat zone and spend a little quality time in some of our local bars, cheering our local sports teams. Both hockey and football give me a bonus – I may not hate the Cowpatties the way I do the Yanks but when hoping for them to lose also means my local team will win – however unlikely – well, that’s a bonus. I’ve got nothing against the Capitals’ saturday opponents, the Leafs, other than that I like taunting one of my old friends when they lose to us.

Welcome to your weekend, Washington. As always, your true-life weekend agendas from We Love DC staff below…

Moses: My 11-11-11 weekend starts with a celebratory something at 11:11:11 AM. Dinner bell ring? Clown car horn? How about taking a moment to remember our Veterans on Veterans Day? It’s dentist day for me, so I’ll get my semi-annual sandwich fix (perhaps the 5th Avenue) afterwards at Booeymonger in Friendship Heights (gives me something to motivate me for dentist visits). Saturday I am headed to Boston (yuck), but for a good cause: the Progeria Research Foundation has its fundraising gala (check out auction items or donate!). Honorary Co-Chairs for the event are Boston Bruins players, but I am Rockin’ the Red with my Washington Capitals cufflinks to show where my heart is!

Rachel: I’m in the final planning stages for my Winter Tour that hits the road next week, so life’s a bit busy. There is, of course, always the time to celebrate a fellow We Love DC’ers birthday … which we’ll do this weekend in Brookland! (Happy Birthday, Tiff!) Other than that, my weekend starts tonight when I stop by the Gibson Guitar Showroom downtown for a guitar design brainstorming session as part of the “Gibson Listens” Program followed by a meet up with another We Love DC’er, Mr. Patrick Pho, at Iota Club & Cafe in Arlington to pick his social media brain about how make the best possible video blogs. In the meantime, I’ll continue to pray that the Nats’ starting catcher Wilson Ramos is returned safely after being kidnapped in his home country of Venezuela last night.

Tom: Weekend at long last, I’m so glad you’re here! Friday is all about stocking up for the weekend ahead. Look for a late grocery run to the Weg in Landover for Saturday’s grand birthday party for my lovely wife, complete with breakfast deliciousness. After that, I’m going to need the mother of all bike rides to make up for my gluttony, but my friend G has given me a great idea for a ride to help cover that extra caloric intake. With the weather slated for the gorgeous side of beautiful, it’s hard not to get outside and love it this weekend. Sunday, we’ll be at the diner for breakfast, ahead of some intense housework to get ready for the winter season!

Rebecca: Friday I’m having date night at 2 Amys. I’m really looking forward to a pint of Old Speckled Hen, some warm olives and my own personal Calabrese pizza. After dinner, we’ll jaunt on over to the National Cathedral, which with the cold, crisp Fall air will be beautifully lit up. Saturday, it’s the last footie match of the season after which I’ll be resting up to tailgate at the Notre Dame v. Maryland game taking place at FedEx Field at 7pm. There are still plenty of tickets available. Sunday things may be a little rough in the morning, but nothing that can’t be fixed with some cheesy, eggy goodness in the form of Mairead’s Cure (a triple decker delight! irish banger, ham, eggs, cheddar cheese, served between three slices of bread with irish beans on the side) and a pint of Guiness at Ireland’s Four Courts.

Huzzard: After a string of what I consider to be lazy weekend this one is getting kicked into high gear. I am going to sit at home playing the new Elder Scrolls game all weekend. Actually I am not doing that I just would be if I wasn’t going to the AFL to watch Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Brian Dozier, and the other future stars of baseball in the Arizona desert. My weekend begins bright and early–actually early but not bright–as I am on one of the first flights of the morning at 6:00 AM. I land in Atlanta around 8:00 and connect to Phoenix at 10:00. That should give me enough time to get a Chic-Fil-A chicken biscuit and pick up the new Stephen King book if I couldn’t find it at Dulles. We are going to cram as much food and baseball as possible in this weekend, but the two most important stops will be HoHoKam Stadium and Alice Cooperstown on Sunday morning to watch the Redskins game. I am sure there will be lots more that I do this weekend. I often find the things we enjoy the most on our travels are those that are unplanned.

Mosley: Friday; 11/11/11; it’s the one day that goes to eleven. Eleven, eleven, eleven; right across the board. And to celebrate it, I’m going to see This is Spinal Tap at the AFI, at 11pm. I’m hoping to get through it better than the band’s drummers…I mean, dozens of people spontaneously combust each year. It’s just not widely reported. Assuming I survive, Saturday is fairly free. I’m thinking of going for a walk through town to see the fall colors. God knows, in just a week or two we’ll be in full on colorless winter. Gotta enjoy the color while it lasts!

Joanna: Since this is my first “weekends,” I’ll go ahead and warn you that I keep my Fridays lame. This Friday I plan to treat my neglected retriever to a run before my friend Laura arrives from NYC. Saturday she and I are taking our dogs on one of my go-to urban hikes: Mt. Vernon Trail from the Pentagon to Memorial Bridge, around the National Mall, then back to VA via the Tidal Basin & Gravelly Point. Saturday night it’s fried chicken and waffles at Founding Farmers, then pints at Sine in Arlington. (Positioned at the window with a Guinness, we plan to enjoy the awkward first dates and amazing wipeouts that make the now-open Pentagon Row skating rink so charmingly kitsch.) Sunday it’s Eastern Market fueled by a shot of Peregrine Espresso, then a stroll around Capitol Hill to watch leaves.

Alexia: Friday night I’m going to support my Euphonium-playing father as he performs with The Alexandria Band in their special “Spirit of the Civil War” multi-media concert at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall on NoVa’s Alexandria campus. The concert commemorates Lincoln’s review of the Army of the North at Bailey’s Crossroads in November 1861, and features Civil War era music. Saturday afternoon I’m braving the ‘burbs and heading to Herndon for a friend’s baby shower. When the sun sets I’ll be cranking up the rock, playing with my band The Torches at Red Palace, for Ugly Purple Sweater’s album release party. Sunday will hopefully be restful, maybe meeting friends for brunch or heading to Old Town Alexandria for my regularly scheduled stroll and coffee with my sister.

Brittany: The weekend starts off with a celebration of celebrating celebrations – or something like that – at BYT’s Young@Heart 2 photography show and party – “a couple hundred of our favorite shots of 2011 which feature celebrities, our city and probably me, you and everyone we know.” On 11|11|11, the date which most resembles corduroy, I will be hosting DC’s local meeting of the Corduroy Appreciation Club at, naturally, Room 11. I am always happy to see a new gallery space opening for business, so Saturday I will be stopping by the grand opening of Arts@1830. After that, I head over to Velvet Lounge to see my friends in the always-great L&T&W. Sunday is the Tweed Ride – always a delight – so I will be tweeding up for that (and sporting a Remembrance Day poppy if anybody knows where I can make a donation around DC).

Ben: I’ll be gathering up friends and family this weekend to attend the opening of NMAI’s latest exhibition, “A Song for the Horse Nation.” The day promises to be full, with a visit to the museum’s Mitsitam Cafe, a full exhibit with artists giving demonstrations, and an exchange of colors between the Crow Nation and the DC Mounted Police. Sunday will be mostly prepping for a much-needed vacation overseas, though if the weather’s good we’ll be heading out to shoot the new MLK memorial during sunset, or possibly taking a nice stroll around the Tidal Basin.

Mosley: Halloween weekend! You’ll have to forgive me, there’s still a part of me that’s ten years old and loves carving pumpkins and dressing up to go looking for candy. While I can’t go trick-or-treating anymore, I’ll do the next best thing: go to H Street to check out the Thriller Flash Mob. That’s on Saturday night. Friday and Sunday are basically free, but I’m looking at doing the Most Haunted Houses Walking Tour on Friday night (gotta be spooked out some time this weekend). Hope you all have a spooky and fun filled weekend!

Moses: Friday night, I finally go to Arena Stage to catch The Book Club Play, written by talented DCer Karen Zacarias. I’m eager to see this version and how it compares to the previous version of the play, which was presented at Bethesda’s Round House Theater in 2008. Cool temps this weekend mean jackets or indoor events. Perhaps it’s time to finally catch America Eats Tavern (formerly Cafe Atlantico). Been meaning to visit for a while, to experience this concept pop-up for myself. Fortunately the Caps are on the west coast to clobber the Sedin brothers and those Vancouver Canucks — which means a 10 pm start is just perfect for me!

Huzzard: The older I get the more holidays sneak up on me. It is all of a sudden Halloween and I didn’t even realize it was coming. I have no definitive plans for this weekend, but that doesn’t mean I can’t explore and find out what local bars are doing to celebrate the holiday. Saturday my wife is going to be at a horse show so my main plan is to sit at home with my dogs, and read the latest Dexter book. Sunday morning I need to go to Penzeys Spices in Falls Church to restock because of my addiction to garlic and paprika. I haven’t been to Elevation Burger in awhile and might go there for lunch. Or if I feel like driving a little further I can try Bobby Flay’s new burger place in DC. No matter where I end up eating for lunch on Sunday I am going to cap the day off by cooking and eating a big strip steak at home.

courtesy of ‘Glyn Lowe Photos’

Tom: After a long week in the salt mines, I’m loving the idea of a long bike ride somewhere flat, so you may catch me grabbing a Bikeshare bike downtown and pedaling around the Mall this weekend, or maybe down to Hains Point. First things first, though, and that’s heading back to DC Brau on Friday night for their screening of Shaun of the Dead at the Brewery. Pints of the best local suds are just $4, and they’ll have Red Apron on hand grilling and making popcorn (also up that has me fascinated? Pickled Half-smokes.) The Brewery got a special one-day license for the event which allows them to serve more than 12 oz of beer per person, so this is your chance to indulge properly (and responsibly).

Addison: I was hoping for some nice weather this weekend to get outside and enjoy fall, which might be my favorite season in DC, but unfortunately, it looks like we are gonna get rain and maybe even some wintry mix. Gross. That said, it looks like the perfect weather to stay in and do some cooking – I found some leek soup recipes that I want to try, so Saturday should be a good opportunity for that. Sunday, hopefully the rain holds off and the weather warms up a little for when I run in the Marine Corps 10K in the morning. Following that, I’m going to need some replenishment, so I think a hike (ok, Metro ride, lets be honest), up Wilson Boulevard to Whitlows or Boulevard Wood Grill for brunch will be in order.

Marissa: Friday after work I’m going to try my darndest to get over to the last Truckeroo of the season. Working out in VA has crushed my food truck addiction/old lunch routine (take your pick of what you’d prefer to call it…) and I just can’t resist all the food trucks in one place. Saturday night I’m heading to RFD in Chinatown to see my friends’ band, Level 7, play with other local acts Lethal Peanut and Chute. Come Sunday, I’ll be spending some quality time recuperating from Halloween weekend with my yoga mat over at Mint. Happy Halloween everyone!

Fedward: It’s time to take our two elderly cats into the shop. Our old standby was the Capital Cat Clinic but that’s a bit more difficult now that we don’t own a car so we’ll take recommendations for vets in/near Petworth if you’ve got them! After that I’m sure we’ll need at least one drink, and if we didn’t go the Passenger for ZOMBIEOPOLIS Saturday night, I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be allowed to show our faces in there again. Plus it sounds like a Hades of a time (ba-dum tish!). Sunday night is the Social Chair’s DC anniversary, so if we clung to old tradition we’d go have a round at Nanny O’Briens, but instead we’ll cling to new tradition at, well, the Passenger for brunch.

‘Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear’
courtesy of ‘Marcellina.’

Jenn: I’ve had a ghoulish week, that’s for sure. I’m ready to go all Dexter on several undeserving criminals in my life, so be warned, if you see a crazed blonde waving a shattered cocktail glass in your face this weekend, better get her a refill or stand out of the way. Am I joking? Hmm. In any case, I’m hoping to head out for some leaf peeping on the way to a crisp fall day at Harper’s Ferry on Saturday, returning in time to whip up some sort of tattered zombie goddess costume for the Passenger’s Zombieoplis party (given my current mood, Nemesis) that night, bumping into Fedward and the Social Chair, and all the other devilish miscreants. Sunday night takes Halloween partying even more nuclear with Spirits in Black at American Ice Company, where Patrick Owens and guest mixtress Gina Chersevani will rule over some serious metalhead madness. If I survive, I’ll come out the other end of the weekend glowingly refreshed, calm, relaxed, and ready to murder Monday morning with a smile.

Rachel: Finally getting to American Ice Company (for the first time) Wednesday night reminded me that there are still a lot of places in this town I haven’t been to yet. So it’s time to get out of my self-imposed box of familiarity and try a few new things. I’ve yet to try Pete’s apizza so it’s about time I try that New Haven style delight. There’s also Yola in Dupont Circle that I’ve been meaning to check out (it always looks so cute when I pass by) though I might change my mind and go to Shake Shake. It’s Halloween on Monday which means the streets are gonna be crowded with costume-clad folk all weekend. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a few drinks at home followed by parading the streets of D.C. for some good, old fashioned people watching. I recommend Massachusetts Avenue along the embassy pathway. It’s always entertaining.

courtesy of ‘mediaslave’

Rebecca: Saturday I’m off to the 12th Annual Nightmare on M Street. This is DC’s largest roaming costume party and takes place at a plethora of bars around Connecticut and M Street. Tickets get you drink specials all night ($2 Coor Light, $3 Blue Moon, etc.) and entrance into the bars, which should lead to a spooky Halloween night and next morning. Sunday, recovery is key, and there’s no better place to soak up that booze then at Steak N’ Eggs Kitchen on Wisconsin Ave. No joke, this is the greasy spoon of greasy spoons, and will be my go-to for eats on Sunday before I crash out on the couch for the rest of the day to watch NFL action.

Don: I’m tempted not to leave my house, so tickled am I at having a roof and insulation. However I think I’ll try to do a little halloween-y theater. On the light-hearted side of things there’s Landless doing another run of Evil Dead: The Musical. I’m not excited to treck to Frederick but I think it’s fair to say a song titled All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons is worth a bit of travel. Closer to home and more serious is Hellspawn, which has migrated over to a space in Woolly Mammoth. At the $20 mark they both seem well worth taking a chance on.

Moses: Friday night group dinner at Cedar for some prodigal DCers coming back to the big city from Kansas. Will enjoy some cocktails, but not too too many, since I’m shooting skeet (not skeeters) for the first time in my life Saturday at Prince George’s Trap & Skeet. Those clay pigeons won’t know what hit (or missed) them! Follow that up with some BBQ, college football and World Series all night and I’m definitely getting my Y chromosome on! After that nearly perfect day with perfect weather, I hit the “honey-do” list by winterizing my deck with the Thompson’s Water Seal and taking too much credit for too little work (shh, don’t tell my wife how easy it is). All that rain’s taken the stains from my planes!

Patrick Palafox: Hillary Buckholts and Brandon Wardell are throwing their comedy showcase Cool Dudes Hanging Out this Friday over at the Velvet Lounge and will feature Sean Patton. The headliner is coming down from New York and has performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham.” This is a great chance to catch a rising star and discover D.C.’s comics Adrien Rodney Ahmed Huidobro, and Lafayette Wright. The show starts at 7PM and only costs five dollars.

Rebecca: Friday I’m heading to Markoff’s Haunted Forest, whose waiver states “The Haunted Forest is dangerous, and patrons may be physically and emotionally harmed – consider yourselves warned! ” I’m already peeing my pants. There are still tickets available for this weekend, but act fast because they tend to sell out. Additionally, the Haunted Forest is a fundraiser for Calleva Outdoor Adventures, a non-profit with the mission to get people of all ages outdoors, providing an educational and challenging environment that promotes personal growth, group cooperation and leadership skill through outdoor activities Saturday, if I’m not cowering in my closet, I’ll attend the Glover Park-Burleith Farmers Market for their Fiber Arts Festival featuring goats, sheep, rabbits, spinning, carding, combing, & felting wool. @DCEmpanadas will be there as well for some NOMS as will countless other vendors selling seasonal veggies, fruits, etc. It’s all at Wisconsin Ave & 34th Street NW from 9-1pm on Saturday. As usual Sunday will be about NFL football watching, cleaning, laundry and getting pumped for AMC’s Walking Dead; why do I insist on continuing to do things that freak me out and lead to sleep deprivation?

Mosley: I have a bunch of things on my plate this weekend, both work and personal. Parties, conference calls, brunches with out of town friends. So this weekend isn’t really mine to do as I please. But if it were, I’d keep it pretty low key. After my recent trip to Italy, I have an understandable urge to eat all forms of Italian cuisine. Sadly, DC isn’t know as a food mecca for my people; but I have heard about an Italian grocery store over by Gallaudett, A. Litteri, Inc, that I want to go and see what they sell. Yes, I might be the only person of Italian decent in this city who has never been here; what can I say, I take after Chris Columbus with discovering things like this. Other than that, I’d love to check out the Flea Market at Eastern Market on Sunday; never know what you might be able to find. Oh, and I need to get cracking on my Halloween costume and on buying a pumpkin. Still not sure what I’m going to do on either count.

<img src='http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/4903889139_e86e65a9dc.jpg' alt='Photo courtesy of 'andrew.cohen'/>
‘Original Boundary Stone of Washington DC’
courtesy of ‘andrew.cohen’

Tom: If I make it through the rest of this week, and at the moment that’s feeling like a very big if, I’m likely going to need two things: a whole lot of delicious beer, and a tasty burger, so catch me at Boundary Stone on Friday night, with Gareth and his gang, their burgers have bacon jam, and frankly, that makes them better than anyone else’s right now. They may be Philly fans, but they make a damned fine burger and serve a cold pint. Saturday is the traditional Meat Festival with my friend MDT, where there will be 20 meats on offer, and I’ll likely be taking with me a bunch of Baconwurst from Red Apron, as well as some local suds. Sunday, there will lifestyle maintenance, and my very first Capital Bikeshare ride. Here’s hoping I haven’t forgotten how to ride a bike!

Fedward: Our weekend is almost all theatre, all the time. It’s the closing weekend for Lungs, and near the end of the run for The Habit of Art, both at Studio. It’s also the closing weekend for The Heir Apparent at Shakespeare Theatre (call the box office and mention the code LASTCHANCE for $25 tickets). And Sunday we’re seeing The Book Club Play at Arena, which doesn’t close for a couple more weeks but for which we’ve been given tickets. We’ll try to squeeze in all of those, our regular brunch at the Passenger (whose Alex Bookless just had a birthday), and some more location scouting for our wedding. And then we’ll keel over from exhaustion, just in time for the work week.

Oh hi everyone, how are you? Sorry we’re a little quiet, we’re all just enjoying this delightful return to September’s weather and planning our weekends. Do us a favor, this time when you chant “rain, rain, go away” please follow up with “come back another day that is more than just a few weeks down the road because seriously we JUST got the moss our from under our fingernails and Don still doesn’t have a new roof on and it’s getting kinda drippy.” Thanks.

So, that aside, if you haven’t planned for the weekend – which the Capital Weather Gang claims will be cool but with few clouds – you could poach some of our concepts.

Patrick: This weekend I’ll be at the Capital Hill Arts Workshop where I’ll be running performances of Circle Mirror Transformation. After seeing it at Studio Theatre last year, I jumped at the opportunity to stage manage a production by the Capital City Players. It’s a quirky comedy about five people in an adult education class in Shirley, VT. Besides that I won’t have much time for anything else- except a trip to Mr. Yogato where I will be cashing in my Scoutmob deal.

‘272/365′
courtesy of ‘ekelly80′

Rebecca: Friday I’m headed to Pizza Paradiso in Georgetown to sample the array of October beers such as Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, Founders Red’s Rye, Hof Ten Doormal White Gold, Stillwater Autumnal, and many, many more. Of course, these will go down even more smoother with a 8″ Quattro Formaggi pizza with prosciutto de parma on top. Saturday morning it’s off as usual to the Glover Park-Burleith Farmers Market, which has extended its season thru November 19th and was voted No. 1 in DC in the 2011 America’s Favorite Farmers’ Market Content. The food truck on tap for this weekend at the market is @porcmobile which I’m uber excited to try. Also on Saturday, I’m headed to a friend’s pumpkin carving party; if you haven’t done this already this is the perfect weekend to do so and you might even consider heading out to Bulter’s Orchard to hand pick your pumpkin. Sunday, if you’re not joining WeLoveDC at the Renaissance Festival, then it’s the perfect time to get your Halloween costume. There are plenty of Halloween focused shops in and around DC or, depending on your costume, swing by some local thrift shops for some ideas.

Mosley: While not taking part in the sweet Renaissance Festival Party Bus on Sunday, I am going to the Faire on Saturday with my family. Gotta have my yearly fill of steak on a stake (after all, tis not just food; tis a weapon!), and check out Shakespeare’s Skum’s latest plays. If I were more city bound on Saturday, my plans would center around checking out the events surrounding the dedication of the Martin Luther King Memorial. As for Sunday, I think I will brave the crowds and try to go down for the actual dedication of the Memorial at 11am. Let’s hope that another hurricane doesn’t cancel it!

courtesy of ‘Ambernectar 13′

Huzzard: I skipped out on this last weekend as it was going to be utterly boring. This weekend will be no less unexciting, but I feel bad not participating two weeks in a row. Friday night I am hoping that I am over my cold and can return to gym action at LA Boxing in Fairfax. Then on Saturday I have to go to a college friends wedding somewhere outside of Harrisburg, Pa. It is too bad it isn’t still baseball season as this would be a good excuse to see the Harrisburg Senators, but the Hershey Bears are home that night. Sunday is reserved for watching the Redskins take on the Eagles and then writing about it. Hopefully they provide me with something good to write about, and I also hope the good story involves them winning as well.

Tom: Fall in DC means trips out to see the leaves, and with the farm doing its last full week of CSA, it’s great to get out to the country. With a stop in Middleburg for lunch at Market Salamander, and then maybe a trek out to Winchester and beyond to commune with my ancestors’ spirits in Winchester’s National Cemetery. This will be as good a weekend as any to take the long road home, maybe driving down 81 to 66 and then in through Front Royal just to look at the Blue Ridge in the height of fall splendor.

courtesy of ‘vlitvinov’

Rachel: My big plans for the weekend include Light The Night Walk that raises money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with a few my friends. That’ll be starting at Freedom Plaza, so it should be interesting to see whether or not the protestors who’ve decided to “sleepover” on that land remove themselves or not by then. Other than that, I’m sad to be missing out on the awesome WLDC Renaissance Festival Party Bus on Sunday but I’ll try to make up for it by entertaining myself by visiting Churchkey for a drink and stopping off at ChiDogO’s for some grub.

Brittany: It is going to be a pretty busy birthday weekend for me – and it starts by celebrating someone else’s birthday, that of 826DC. Their first birthday party is tonight at Bourbon in Adams Morgan. On Friday, I will be heading up to Nectar Skin Bar in Georgetown for an afternoon spa-session and later stopping by Hirshhorn After Hours, among other things. Saturday is brunch with my parents, then Fashion District in the evening. Sunday, I will be picking up a birthday cake from my friend Justin at Bakeshop and celebrating with friends late into the night. Yay!

Don: My weekend is pretty slim up-front but gets exciting at the end. Saturday’s going to hopefully be a little low-key and involve some relaxing at home and sweeping back the tide, cleaning-wise. We might go see the new addition to the Hagan family and get some infant snuggling in, and I know that doesn’t excite you but we’re all thrilled for new momma Katy! Sunday’s when the carousing starts, with a departure from the Passenger to go hit up the Renaissance Fair and eat some ye old turkey legs. As well as the always available medieval classic, the deep fried oreo. Once I’m back I’ve got a little time to sober up and digest before heading to the opening night for Woolly’s A Bright New Boisie.

Woo, tough crowd. Anyway, if you’re still wrestling with what to do with yourself on this weekend’s predicted warm days and cool nights… well, just cyber-stalk us whydontcha?

Alexia: This weekend is going to be a busy one! Friday night the 7th-grade-me will freak out at the Black Cat watching The Lemonheads perform It’s a Shame About Ray in its entirety! Yeah! Saturday I’m playing with my band The Torches at Desperados at 7pm, as part of the Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie Music Festival, happening all weekend in the U Street corridor. After I get off stage, I am scrambling over to Artisphere in Arlington for The 1 Party, in honor of their first birthday. Looking forward to witnessing Volta Bureau’s first live performance there! Sunday will hopefully be a day of rest, including strolling through Eastern Market and getting some veggies from the farmer’s market there for the week.

courtesy of ‘Jenn Dyer’

Rachel: My weekend begins tonight with a live performance at Axum Bar & Lounge (located at 1934 9th Street NW). I’ll be debuting some new material and there’s a chance I’ll preview my song of choice for my Glee Project audition (yeah, I’m auditioning for The Glee Project this November, should be fun). Show starts at 8:30 p.m. tonight and there’s no cover charge. The rest of the weekend will likely include my standard trip to Kramer’s for Saturday Brunch for a quick read and a stop at Regal Gallery Place to see 50/50. I’ll probably stop by Utrecht for some new paints. I’ve got Monday off thanks to that whole Federal Holiday thing so I’m thinking of taking a pit stop at the zoo if it’s open.

courtesy of ‘christaki’

Tom: It’s my birthday this weekend! While my plans aren’t yet in stone, I’m thinking that there will likely be some Italian Store sandwiches, some Shirlington Oktoberfest, some Capitals Hockey (home opener on my birthday!) I’ve been feeling sort of paralyzed this week, though, so I’m hoping that this weekend will also come with some meditative moments at the Farmers’ Markets, and perhaps in tribute to my aging, a Bikeshare membership.

Addison: With the economy the way it is, I have been making an effort to stop going out so much in an effort to save some ducats. As such, Friday I am hosting a breakfast potluck dinner (mmmm waffles) for a bunch of my friends. Saturday during the day, even though I am dogless, I’m planning on heading over to Lacey Woods Park in Arlington for their Dogtober Day. In the evening, its the official start of hockey season, which means you can find me a RFD in Chinatownfor a few hours before the Capitals kick off their season against the Hurricanes at the Verizon Center. Sunday will be the first free one for me in a few months since kickball is over and the Redskins are on their bye week, so I’m at a bit of a loss with no distinct plans. The weather looks like its going to be gorgeous on Sunday, so definitely something outside, if only a walk on along the C&O canal or trip to the zoo. Ive also been craving sushi so I am going to look for a new place in Arlington to try.

Moses: It’s a weekend chock full o’festivals for me, beginning Friday night with the Stella Artois “World Draught Masters” US Finals at the National Building Museum, where the winner of the “9-Step Pouring Ritual” competition wins a trip to the World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina! Saturday night is the “Otsukimi” (Harvest Moon) Festival at the Textile Museum, where the Japan-America Society of America hosts a traditional harvest moon celebration from 6:30-9:00pm. Bringing back a long-lost tradition Saturday – Monday is the revamped, revitalized and redesigned “Taste of DC” which takes over Pennsylvania Avenue Oct 8-10. The new format includes over 60 wineries and 80 fabulous DC area restaurants; the event is mostly free to attend, with ticket purchases required for food and drink. Pre-purchase tickets online to save. Whew!
Don: I’ve got family in town so it’s a great excuse to try to peep some early-turning leaves and do some other touristy stuff. We’re going to hit the Newseum so my darling wife and I can use our Living Social-bought memberships. We won’t have to pay for my parents on this visit since superstar membership coordinator Erica gave us a pair of free passes for guests. We had a minor inconvenience getting the memberships activated and she gave us the passes while making it right. Let them be your inspiration, other local businesses – mistakes aren’t the big deal, the problem is when you don’t do the right thing to fix them. Kudos to the Newseum for knowing that.

Brittany: The weather is finally scheduled to drop down to “sweater” – and, accordingly, the busy autumn social calendar is getting into full swing. Friday night you will find me poolside (hopefully chilly!) for the “Rebirth of Cool” party hosted by art-star Kehinde Wiley, in association with the amazing 30 Americans exhibit. Saturday is Crafty Bastards, an annual must-shop and then the night eventually takes me to U Hall for Clicks & Whistles. Sunday I think I will do some more quality-assurance on the beer, bourbon, and tofu (yay!) at Smoke & Barrel.

Tom: Finally! A weekend without work! Just in time for the marvelous Crafty Bastards fair, where my friend Art will be plying a delicious art project involving maple syrup and a whiskey barrel. This weekend is also a friend’s blood drive, so I might be getting my donate on in Falls Church on Saturday from 8 to 12:30p with the Masons. With no baseball but the playoffs this weekend, it’s finally time to get my search on for a good 49ers bar to watch this weekend’s game in. Anyone got a good lead for me?

Huzzard: I might be breaking some rules by providing no links to what I will be doing this weekend, but I don’t have any pictures of the inside of my condo online. It is going to be a great and wonderful weekend filled with the relaxing silence of nothing. I have no plans and for the first time in what seems like forever I have no plans. There is nothing like a nice relaxing weekend of being bored after an entire summer of travel and baseball. Of course that isn’t saying I won’t get a text message from someone wanting to watch the MLB playoffs or the Redskins game at a bar somewhere, but for now I am planning on enjoying every minute of my long lost boredom in isolation.

Moses: this weekend I’ll be enjoying activities un-Boston, in celebration of the Red Sox collapse! Friday night, I hope to pull a late-nighter to catch some live World Cup Rugby action, perhaps at Sollys. Saturday is college football action, which means watching SEC stalwarts Alabama and Florida at Meridian Pint or joining the Alabama crazies at Old Dominion Brewhouse. Sunday I’ll virtually jet to Byzantium at the Turkish Festival on Penn Ave from 11-7, purposefully failing to rein in my taste buds with lots of yummy Turkish delights (<var></var>though I don’t like the Turkish Delight dessert).

Marissa: This weekend will probably prove to be a busy one. Friday night I’m planning on finally checking out Lost Society since their cocktail menu looks quite tasty. Saturday night I’m excited to see my friends’ band, Level 7, play at the Level X Lounge. Tickets are only $10. Then I’ll round out the weekend on Sunday afternoon checking out the newWarhol exhibit at the National Gallery of Art.

Mosley: You mean besides a lot of photo editing and trip prep? Actually, after having such a blast at the H Street Festival last week, I’m excited to see that Barracks Row is having it’s own fall festival on Saturday. Other than that, I’ve been telling myself, for a number of years, to check out the National Book Festival. I might end up doing that on Sunday. Full weekend indeed!

Fedward: The Social Chair and I will be visiting friends near Front Royal, which usually means a winery tour. Past favorites have included Linden Vineyards (a Virginia wine pioneer and consistent producer of high quality wine), Glen Manor Vineyards(recently featured in a wine maker dinner at Dino), and Chester Gap Cellars (a place I’d go just for the view from the tasting room, even without Bernd’s excellent wines). If we’re organized we might even squeeze in a visit to a distiller or two. I should try to remember to bring along some WLDC business cards, huh. And then on our way back we’ll stop at Apple House for some donuts.

Michael: This weekend I will be rocking out to the best stoner metal reunion ever…no, not the original Black Sabbath…I’m talking about Kyuss ! Well okay, so all that most people care or know about Kyuss is that it is the group that spawned Josh Homme (and all of his lame pop bands) but really folks there is so much more! This is a group with depth to their sound and their line-up. The reunited Kyuss (minus Josh Homme *cough* prick *cough* and Nick Oliveri *cough* SWAT team stand-off *cough* going to jail *cough*.) is playing at 9:30 Club on Saturday night and will open up a whole new world of wonders to anyone who is unfamiliar with their nearly unclassifiable sound. As an added bonus, The Sword (headliners in their own right) are the opening act!

Brittany: This weekend promises to be a (very visually engaging) blur: There are about eleventy-million intriguing art events, including (e)merge, Submerge, and But Is It Art? Fair. Friday is the opening reception for the Hirshhorn’s fabulous Andy Warhol: Shadows and, were I not attending that (and Solas Nua’s Fashion Salon), I might be trying to catch a film about a Warhol protege over at the Corcoran. Saturday night brings DC’s first-ever Nuite Blanche: Art All Night DC. For non-visual arts, I might go see Fucked Up and Wavves – but it will be hard to top the Dirty Beaches/Frankie Rose show I caught at DC9 earlier this week.

Rachel: Call me predictable but I’ll be at Nationals Park. This weekend marks the final three games of the regular season played at home which begs the question – where else would I be this weekend? Needless to say, I’ll be getting there early and won’t leave ’til it’s over. Friday’s a night game and Saturday/Sunday are day games. It doesn’t get better than that (pending the sun makes an appearance). If any readers out there want to chat about their favorite season memories, I’ll likely be found at the scoreboard walk bar before the first pitch. Feel free to reach out via Twitter for a little meet up session! Otherwise, I’m thinking me and the Kindle will need to find a place to cozy up in this great city. I’m thinking Kramerbooks is a must. And if there’s time, maybe I’ll pop over to Teaism.

Moses: A soggy weekend begins Thursday evening with the Kennedy Center’s “Opera in the Outfield” at Nationals Park, featuring a broadcast simulcast of “Tosca” on the super-sized big screen starting at 7:30 (gates open at 5:30). The hits keep on coming at Nationals Park for “FANale” — a celebratory final 3 games of this season, with t-shirt and concessions promotions. Friday night, “Strasburg Strikes Again” when Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to take the mound for the red-hot Nationals against a suddenly playoff-threatened Atlanta Braves, with fireworks after the game. Home game finale on Sunday. Hopefully Nats Park won’t be Nats Ark and we bid our team adieu with an opera-infused winning streak!

Huzzard: One of my friends from High School is visiting this weekend. He happens to live in Atlanta now and is a Braves fan so I am hoping this weekend is not as pleasing to him as he wants it to be. I, like many others, will be spending three days out at Nats Park cheering on the Nationals and hoping to end the season on a high note. I will also try and do a little more exploring of DC and the metro area as I will for the first time be trying a Korean taco atDaMoim in Annandale. I might also venture over to Eastern Market after either the Saturday or Sunday game to tryTortilla Cafe. For a little old time fun and sadness we are going to visit the remains of Springfield Mall (scroll over the map and see how many places are listed as “Space Available” on Sunday and remember what it was like when we were young.

Addison: I had plans for this weekend, but they ended up falling through, so I’ve been scrambling to find new things to do. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t look like it is going to cooperate with my plans of getting outside and enjoying some early fall weather (usually my favorite time of year). This weekend is my birthday, so a dinner with family and friends is in the works, most likely at my favorite Arlington spot, Rustico, on Friday. Saturday, I have a rare free weekend day, that I will most likely put to good use by watching college football all day. Saturday night, I might wander into the city to one of my other favorite locales, Bourbon, in Glover Park to expand my newly-discovered appreciation for rye. Sunday is my usual trio of brunch, playing kickball on the Mall, and watching football.

Patrick Palafox: I have trained my body to handle the awesomeness that this weekend will have and everything I know will be tested. Friday night I’m heading over to the State Theater to check out the Big “O” and Dukes show. The podcast will be recorded live and is featuring The Pietasters. Then, Saturday night I’m catching Atari Teenage Riot over at the 9:30 Club. Their digital hardcore sound will destroy the club and their anti-government rants will surely cause the Capital to rise to action to…I don’t know. Maybe make some witty signs and walk around the mall. Probably not, but still.

Rachel: I’ve been informed that on Friday night my presence is requested for a night of drinking around the Logan Circle area. My first choice would be Churchkey, however, if my friends aren’t interested in that and choose Commissary I will not be disappointed. I’d really like to try and make it to the Zoo Saturday for a walk since the weather is expected to be in the mid-60’s (with lows in the mid-50’s!!!!) Perhaps I’ll even bring a book too. That sounds awful relaxing, doesn’t it? On Sunday, I’ll be at Nats Park for one of the last four home games of the year. If you haven’t been to a Nats game once this season, friends, your time is running out. They’ve got three this weekend and three next weekend … and that’s it.

Tiff: I’m spending all day Saturday in a content strategy workshop cosponsored by DC Web Women (disclosure: I am on the steering committee of that fine organization) and the Society for Technical Communication. That’s right: I don’t get to think about my job enough 5 days a week, so I’m spending Saturday thinking about it, too. There are still seats left. After that I am pretty sure I will need a drink, so the question is really just whether I’m picking up Four Roses from Schneider’s on Capitol Hill or heading out to someplace like Church and State. On Sunday I’ve got to cram all my regular weekend stuff in, so it’ll be breakfast at Capital City Diner before a trip to Great Country Farms to pick up this week’s CSA share.

Mosley: Meeting up with friends for the H Street Festival on Saturday. I’ve never been, so this should be exciting. Other than that, I’ve got a big adventure/vacation to Italy coming up in two weeks, so I won’t have too much time for other things (gotta get cracking on the planning and what not). However, I will have to get my butt outside for this awesome weather I hear we’ll be having on Sunday. Seeing as I’m starting to read Clash of Kings for my upcoming vacation, this seems like a perfect storm of factors to waste a Sunday morning or afternoon outside.

Marissa: This weekend I’m due for a little R&R. I might try to swing by the H street Festival on Saturday afternoon, take in a little sunshine and live music while checking out the vendors that are there. Sunday I’ll be helping out with DC Central Kitchen/Go Venga’s Stuff the Bus tour at Clyde’s in Georgetown from 12-3 PM. You can bring non-perishable items or donate online.

Moses: While the wife is away, I’m getting my sports fix in this autumnal weather! Spending my buddy’s birthday Saturday watching college football all day at Cleveland Park Bar & Grill (upstairs deck all day, downstairs night). Sunday should be a gorgeous day for Spanish, Argentine and Chilean wines and salsa dancing at “Vintage Crystal: A Taste of Wine and Jazz” in Crystal City, before catching NFL action with Port City Oktoberfest on tap at The Big Hunt with some dejected KC Chiefs fans.

Tom: This weekend will be first weekend not working my tail off in some time, so look for me to be a man of leisure about town. Saturday is, of course, The H Street Festival, which has my favorite cause, the Baltimore Rock Opera Society doing a street show a number of times on Saturday afternoon. Very good chance I’ll be dropping in for a bier or three at Biergarten Haus. Sunday, I intend to find the very best place to root on my beloved, yet beleaguered San Francisco 49ers, though the Nationals are also facing the Marlins in one of two final, short homestands ahead of the long dark off-season. It will be cloudy with a chance of Strasmas, so I’d say watch for a good series, especially as they’ve played the Mets so well this.

Don: After spending last weekend helping a friend install flooring it’s my goal to spend this weekend doing nothing. Which I can tell you right now, I am going to fail at. For one, the weather is just too beautiful not to take advantage of. I think my darling wife and I should take a trip out to our engagement spot on Roosevelt Island if nothing else, maybe a Nats game. For another, we’re in renovation hell and the portions of our home we can still get to look like a storage unit, which is not so great for relaxation. So perhaps a little time with our friends Kate & Ed at the Passenger – not that we’ve scheduled anything, I just know I can drop in and find them there on Sunday – or a some drinks at Churchkey or Rustico.
