So, this photo. Parents need to take a lesson from this photo by Jennifer (and the other similar shots in her stream). Do you see what this baby has that yours does not? That’s right, a mustache. He’s got the baby chub, the adorable striped socks, and the very dapper tuxedo onesie but, let’s be honest, that mustache really takes it to a whole other level. Jennifer did an excellent job of capturing it as well through this wonderful high contrast black and white image with its yin and yang composition.

I know he only grew it in honor of Movember but I think we can all agree that the world would be a much better place if this little cutie kept it year round. Congratulations on your adorable baby Jennifer and maybe try and convince him to keep the ‘stache just a little longer?

A little bit of mystery for the day. A self portrait is just what it sounds like, a photo of the photographer taken by the photographer. Some people find this type of photography to be empty or egotistical. Others (like myself) think that, when done well, it can give you an amazing insight into the person taking the photograph. Like any other portrait photo it can convey an amazing amount of emotion. Now yostinator SP above isn’t a full on self portrait, but it still does a great job of capturing the mystery of the scene. We’ve all had moments where we catch our reflection in a window or a mirror and, if the light is just right, get intrigued by what is looking back at us. Yostinator catches her hand’s reflection, along with that of her camera, and along the way gets some beautiful colors and bokeh in the background, all while waiting for a Metro train. This could just as easily been an abstract painting, rather than a self portrait.

The rock and photography gods smiled on yostinator with this photo! Between shooting into the sun, the chaotic crowds of the H Street Festival, and trying to get an interesting photo of a rocking rocker, quite a bit could have gone wrong. But she pulled it off, and came away with a Prince of the Universe shot. Rock on!

Wow; talk about an impressive portrait! There’s very little, if anything, wrong with this shot. Framed nicely and tack sharp, this image is all about the small details it shows: the woman’s two color eye shadow; the sprinkling of assorted paints on her chest and upper lip; and the different feathers of her headdress. Even her expression is one of slight mystery; is she just between breaths from dancing or is something else going on? Or is it something mundane? This is a shot a person could get lost in for hours, and it would not be wasted time. Excellent work yostinator!
