Weekend Flashback: 5/3-5/5

Ah, what a nice weekend! Definitely nice enough to get one into the spirit of going out and defeating a numerically superior French army…or have a margarita. Hopefully, you settled on the margarita.

Did you get a chance to enjoy this past weekend? Because this week is going to be pretty depressing. And wet. But fear not, to help you cheer up we’ve got this here Weekend Flashback. And it being from an amazing weekend, it is sure to be full of enjoyment. So, enjoy! Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 4/19-4/21

Nothing happened this weekend. And I think we are all happy about that. I won’t dwell on the nothing happening, so let’s just go straight into the photos. As always, our contributors were out in force the previous three days and have some excellent work to show off. So, put your feet up, continue to ignore that intern who’s trying to quietly get your attention, and enjoy some great photography. Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 4/12-4/14

That’s it, the Cherry Blossom Festival is over. And hopefully the masses of tourists will taper off for a few weeks before the brunt of summer starts. At least, one could hope that happens. Other than that, us Washingtonians simply continue our day-to-day norm. And to make that norm a little bit easier, check out and enjoy this installment of Weekend Flashback. Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 3/29-3/31

You’ve reached Brian’s automated posting service. Sorry, Brian can’t come to the blog right now because he’s waiting in line to, **HOPEFULLY**, get a ticket to the National’s home opener today. If this is an emergency, well, I guess it’s kind of an S.O.L. situation until early this evening; besides, why would you try to find him on this blog in an emergency? Weird. Anyways, please wish him luck and leaving any non-emergency problems in the comments, after the beep.

But before the beep, enjoy this assortment of photos from over the weekend. As always, they are excellent. Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 3/22-3/24

I was prepared to write something snarky about how spring has not arrived and that those wanted posters for Punksatony Phil are spot on. But then I tried to pick the ten photos for this Flashback, and I had to increase the number to 15. There was simply an overabundance of great shots! Everyone really took advantage of Saturday and got outside to take pictures; thank you and good work. Now, everyone enjoy this first Weekend Flashback of Spring! Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 3/15-3/18

Let’s get this week moving. We got a Elephant Parade tomorrow; March Madness to kick off; and we still need to get this Spring thing started (whenever that will happen is anyone’s guess). So let’s get started and the week will just fly by!

Friendly reminder to all our photo contributors: we are starting up our “Week In Review” posts this Friday, so please contribute photos throughout the week. Everyone at WLDC is looking forward to the seeing the contributions. Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 3/1-3/3

No turning back now, we’re in the mouth of the lion (AKA: beginning of March). And it might just take its first bite this week. Some people have jinxed us and already started naming things, as if we’ve gotten some snowflakes already. You all now know who to blame when nothing comes (and I awarded you Featured Photo last week Phil!). To help even things out, I said everything before this sentence; I’m willing to accept a thousand I-told-you-sos if it means we get snow. So there we have it. We now may or may not get snow this week. You heard it here first…or, whatever.

Look on the bright side, literally: Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, so more light!!

Anyways, it certainly didn’t snow this past weekend, and we got a particularly good selection of contributions. Please enjoy! Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 2/1-2/3

Yeah, so I hear some game happened last night. And a team in our general regional area won. Congrats to whoever that team was. But the really important sports news can be summed up here. If you can’t tell, I’m only a football fan at very specific moments and the day after the Super Bowl is not one of them.

But the really good news is we got got some winter over the weekend, even if it really wasn’t measurable. And we’re going to be getting a little more winter today. I’ll be honest, I’m hoping that Phil was right and we’re getting spring earlier than normal. And to hasten the warmer times just a tad bit, take some time to check out pics from over the weekend…oh, and remember: don’t drive angry! Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 1/25-1/27

That weird weekend just before the Superbowl is over. Now we all get to spend the week trying to figure out where we’re going to watch all those commercials on Sunday…I mean, eat all that food…now that you mention it, I think there’s a game on Sunday too. Huh, they add something new every year.

Anywho, we survived cold, protesters, and snow this weekend, so I’m feeling confident we’ll get through the week. But if you’re not feeling so confident, here’s another installment of Weekend Flashback to keep work at bay. Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 1/18-1/21

As America’s greatest fake president liked to say: “What’s next?” The Inauguration has happened; the Parade has been walked (a little less by some public servants. I’m looking at you, Mr. President! Just couldn’t make those three blocks between 12th & 15th Streets, hmm?); and the Balls have been danced away. Now, we work; luckily only for four days. So if your morning drink isn’t getting you over your Inauguration withdrawal, take a look at some pics from this past weekend. Continue reading

Weekend Flashback: 1/11-1/13

This weekend can be summed up in one word: fog. I have a couple of adjectives I’d like to use it as well, which can also describe some of the weathermen who mis-predicted this weather; but I consider you to be polite company and will not offend you with what I want to say. All I know is, we were promised a spring-like day and now I want my spring-like day!

Anyways, it’s the week before a long weekend, so we need to just muscle through it. Remember, we have a big party next Monday, where we have a new second-termer coming back into office. So, to help with the warm-up, and to help you get into the mood for the week, take a look back at our disappointing weekend in beautiful photos! Continue reading

Weekend Flashback

Weekend Flashback: 1/4-1/6

First full week of January is looking like a week of “welcome backs”. The first, and most personal/annoying to you, is a welcome back to the office. Sure, most people were back during the short week last week, but it’s a certainty that people will be back in the office today. The next welcome back is for the Redskins to annoying loses. That was a very hard lose to take. And yes, even if you don’t like football, you’re going to be hearing about it today. But still, a MUCH better season than anyone predicted; fans can’t complain about that.

And the last welcome back is for me…yes, very self-serving but hopefully a little more pleasant. I’m back from my travels abroad and, if you can believe it, they actually gave me my job back here. I’m hoping to kick photos stories back into high gear, so get your cameras ready and keep the photos streaming in! And with that in mind, here’s the weekend in flashback form. Enjoy! Weekend Flashback — Dec 14-16

The holidays are in our midst. Hanukkah ended last night, and we’re just a week short of Christmas at this point. The lights of the Downtown Holiday Market will illuminate Penn Quarter through the week, and Hogo popped up this weekend, which provides just a perfect level of cognitive dissonance with our unseasonably warm weather.

This was a weekend for Christmas Pageants, for Holiday Concerts, and meant for merriment. I can’t but think we’re all a little slower for this weekend’s serious side as well. I found my own joy tempered by loss, and my own emotions running higher than normal.

Have a good week, DC. We’ve got a lot up our sleeves to try to work on all this.

Weekend Flashback

The somewhat rainy but warmer-than-usual weekend has come and gone, bringing Hanukkah and the flurry of holiday season preparations with it. You may be ready to rejoin the working world but I’m not. So let’s take a minute and mentally say NUH-uh through some photos, shall we?

Weekend Flashback — December 1-2

What a beautiful first weekend in December. Though I was longing for a little bit more chill to the air – and maybe just a few snowflakes – it was a great way to open winter in the District. The Winter Holiday Market is open on F Street, city and community trees are beginning to be light with the colorful lights of our winter observances, and the sound of celebration is in the air.

Thanks for a lovely weekend, DC, you really are the best.

Weekend Flashback, Nov 24-25

For some of us the weekend was a lot longer than that, comprising a mix of Thanksgiving, family, shopping, and all sorts of leisure. Some of you no doubt spent it feeling like it would never end, slaving away in the retail salt mines. If you’re sorry it’s over, look back dreamily while you drink the first of many cups of coffee. If this is the first chance you’ve had to relax then maybe you can pretend you did these things rather than say “no, we only had 3 Peggy Pickle Purple dolls at that price.”
