We want you to contribute

One of the things that makes blogging such a fun form of writing is the potential for dialogue. Unlike print, we’ve got a real potential to have an exchange with each other. We like that aspect of blogging, and we welcome your input. Whether it be an elaboration on something we missed, more information, agreement or a dissenting point of view, we want to hear from you.

Yes, you’re welcome to disagree – a little or a lot.

But you have to be polite

Differing points of view make for interesting conversations and opportunities to learn, but calling people names isn’t fun for anyone. It’s not fun for us because it’s not fun for anyone to be insulted. It’s not fun for you because we’re just going to delete it.

“That’s censorship!”

We’re okay with that.

We – as people who like to write and share our opinions – are big believers in the First Amendment right to free speech, and have no interest in preventing you from making your voice heard. You’re free to go start your own blog, link to one of our posts, and be as abusive and insulting as you like. We’re just not going to provide you a place to treat us badly, so when you post comments here we ask that you be courteous.

Polite adults can disagree and discuss

So please do, we want to hear from you.

Or in other words:

We reserve the right to remove comments that are abusive, illegal or otherwise offensive to us. We promise not to be capricious, you promise not to be a big fat jerk.

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.
