"Cocktail at Bar Pilar" by Jenn Larsen, on Flickr
Starting tonight, you only have three more Tuesday nights to enjoy Cocktail Sessions with mixologist Adam Bernbach at Bar Pilar, before he leaves the 14th Street digs on May 19th (GOG has the full scoop on his future plans).
I really love Pilar, love Adam’s cocktails, especially anything featuring cardamon syrup… but I can’t make it tonight. So my loss is your gain, there’ll be an extra seat, get over there!
As one of the founding editors of We Love DC, Jenn’s passions are theater and cocktails. After two decades in the city, she’s loved every quirky, mundane, elegant, rude minute of her DC life. A proud advocate for DC’s talented drinks scene, she’s judged the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s ARTINI contest, the DC Rickey Month contest, the Jefferson Hotel’s Quill Cocktail competition, and is a founding member of LUPEC DC. A graduate of Catholic University’s drama program, she toured the country as a member of National Players, and has been both an actor and a costume designer before jumping the aisle to theater criticism. Writing for We Love DC restored her happiness after a life-threatening illness, and she’s grateful to you, dear readers. I can’t remember the last time I had a drink in Bar Pilar. I dunno, for some reason that place just doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe I should give it another go sometime.
That said, it was listed as one of the nation’s top 100 bars by Food and Wine:

And so was Cafe Atlantico? Weird.
I go at “off” times to Pilar. When it’s a crowded zoo I don’t bother. But hey, to each his own! that’s what makes this city interesting.
So odd about Atlantico. Isn’t that bar area tiny? Maybe they got all mixed up with Minibar. Which of course, isn’t actually a bar anyway. This is why we don’t trust “top” lists…
I thought Cafe Atlantico got on because of their mojitos. I’m obviously not one to judge, but I hear they’re outstanding.
