Speaking of Starbucks

Bang! by Samer Farha

Last week we asked you to nominate the worst Starbucks in DC and we may now be able to name the winner: the 16th & U street location.

According to (an unprofessionally titled) article by NBC, a barista “accidentally shot himself in the leg Tuesday afternoon.”  There aren’t many details about what went down, but seeing as how I go there every morning and know some of the employees there, I’ll try to get to the bottom of this.  I have a hunch who the unnamed barista is, and the I’m not surprised that he a) was packing heat or b) shot himself.

We can only hope that his days at Starbucks are over and that we can go back to drinking our coffee without living in fear of an accidental discharge from behind the counter.  There are of course no guarantees that their service will improve.

Wow… Plaxico Burress sure has fallen a long way from playing for the N.Y. Giants…

(come on sports fans, you saw that one coming.)

I’d love to know whether or not:

    1) This guy bought the weapon legally
    2) Had it registered with the District
    3) Recognized his MONUMENTAL FAIL in not keeping the safety on

Good questions, Tom, but I’d mostly like to know why he thought it was OK to bring a gun to work?! Did he have plans to use it or is he just always packing heat?

    FAIL indeed.

  4. Tom Bridge Says:

Yeah, why you’d bring a gun to work at Starbucks is perfectly laughable.

That IS a good question. I guess I never really feel like a firefight is about to break out in a Starbucks usually if I go in for a cup of coffee… though on the other hand, if the barista is packing heat, maybe I SHOULD start worrying about it.

I’m just glad I no longer work at a place where I have to carry a gun. Too much responsibility and chance of some nutball like this guy accidentally discharging. Why people voluntarily carry guns is a mystery to me. Too much trouble. Of course, this guy was probably not thinking. Funny – criminals typically do not think of the legal implications of their actions.

I talked to the morning shift barista this morning but they didn’t give me much more info other than the shooter is in fact an EX employee now which comes as no surprise.
