We Love Weekends – June 11th and 12th

Addison: This weekend is busy for me, which really isn’t unexpected at all. I just moved into a new apartment, so Friday I’m heading over to Arrowine in Arlington to pick up some charcuterie, cheese, and wine for a housewarming party (going classy now that i’m out of the group house and in a big boy apartment). Saturday, its gonna be sunny and hot, so I really can’t think of anything better to be doing than floating down the Shenandoah river in an inner tube while sipping on some frosty brews.  Sunday, as usual, I can be found down around the Capitol playing kickball and flipping cups at My Brothers Place.

Tom: We’re headed north to Charm City for our anniversary, taking in the BROS at the Autograph Saturday night after dinner at Tapas Teatro.  We had hoped to head to Richmond to see a friend’s art opening, but it has been postponed. We may head down to the Civil War Capital anyhow, just to see the sites and get away from the hustle and bustle.

Marissa: Friday I’ll be taking advantage of Jazz in the Sculpture Garden which started up for the summer a few weeks ago. Picnic dinner and sangria? Done and done. Since the Corcoran Gallery of Art is offering free admissions on Saturday until Labor Day, I’ll be taking in a few exhibits there for the afternoon, before I make my way over to Harry’s Smokehouse on Sunday evening to watch (and eat burgers) DC Central Kitchen’s chefs-in-training compete in a burger slider competition.

Rachel: My weekend starts tonight at the Verizon Center when I finally get to see Glee Live. I cannot for the life of me contain my excitement. I feel like a teenage girl at an N SYNC performance of “Bye Bye Bye” during a live taping of TRL in 2001. In any case, before the show, I’m stopping by Lucky Strike for a drink with my fellow Gleeks and then heading into the show. Friday, I’ll be at the 9:30 Club to catch Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner Ryan Bingham (known for the title track to “Crazy Heart”) live to continue my streak of two shows in two days. Saturday, I’ll likely take my mountain bike out around the National Cathedral for the scenery and make my way to Kramer’s in Dupont for some food at the cafe. They have bagels and lox so that makes this Jewish girl very happy. Sunday afternoon, the Glover Park Co-Ed Softball League returns to it’s original home at 39th and Calvert, so I’ll be playing day ball on the sandlot followed by margaritas and Mexican food at Guapos with my best friend.

Mosley: Bright and early Saturday morning I get to torture myself through near dehydration…to be a little less dramatic and more descriptive, I get to run the National Press Club’s 5K.  This will be my third year doing this 5K and I’m hoping to improve my time (just under 30 minutes last year…don’t judge me! ;O).  I plan on promptly napping afterwards.  After that, half my family seems to have been born during this week of June, so I have a bunch of get-togethers with relatives.  Sunday I’m thinking of checking out the Anacostia Community Museum.  I’ve never been, and only recently found out the Smithsonian has a museum out in Anacostia.  With their free shuttle bus from spots along the Mall (and some other spots in town), it’ll make it even easier to check it out.

Fedward: Friday I’m finally going to get to the Petworth Market, which returned for the season a few weeks ago, but which circumstances have prevented me from supporting with my custom … until now. Saturday is World Gin Day (who decides these things, anyway?), so it’ll involve gin, somehow. On Sunday I don’t have much of anything planned. Maybe a visit to one of DC’s public swimming pools, although I’d rather have had that last night. Oh yeah, and I mustn’t forget brunch at the Passenger (the new rice bowl with pork belly and kimchi is a thing of beauty).

Rebecca J.: Friday I’m checking out Todd Gray’s Watershed with WLDC’s Chris Zimmerman, where I’m hoping to snag some tasty coastal food served with refreshing cocktails and the tunes of The Wayfarers. Saturday, as usual, I’ll be hitting up the Glover Park – Burleith Farmers’ Market for fresh produce, eggs and cheese, after which I’ll head over to the Rock-N-Romp over on 14th Street, where DJ Ca$idy and glam metal band Wrath of Borgnine will rock out, while adults and children hula hoop and blow bubbles to their hearts content. Sunday, I have my last footie match of the Spring season, and hopefully the heat will subside a tad for that 90 minute match. Most likely afterwards I’ll be heavily hydrating with a cold beer, Weihenstephan I can taste you now!, at Breadsoda and then with plenty of water at home.

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.

  2. I read your article about Monkton tubing a few weeks back and since I live in Baltimore I checked it out.

It was so much fun I sought out other places to tube in MD and am building a site about tubing in MD… http://tubing-maryland.com .

It details all the fun places to go from Monkton to Columbia, MD(Patapsco River) to other MD spots too.
