Social Safeway Gutted

I’ve had a report that the Social Safeway at 1855 Wisconsin Avenue, NW has been throughly gutted of groceries. My friend went there this past Sunday to purchase some Yellowtail, and found the wine/beer aisle completely ransacked. She did mention there were heavy discounts on the remaining items, which boiled down to a sparse produce section. The much utilized grocery store is closing on April 26th for a year or so for a much needed upgrade and revamp, but I at least figured they’d be servicing the community with staples (think milk, eggs and cereal) rgiht up until the 26th. In the mean time, should Glover Parkers and Georgetowners need to eat, Safeway will wave their delivery fee for area residents if their online order exceeds $50 and there’s also the Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck) just up the street.
