In his testimony before the DC City Council Monday on the legalization same-sex marriage in the District, Andrew Hertzberg proposed to his partner Andy Rollman. The hearing itself had to be split across two days so that literally hundreds of witnesses could testify.

Congratulations to Andrew and Andy on their engagement, and for their willingness to essentially put their relationship on display to make a point on behalf of other couples. And here’s to hoping that the act of committing your life to another doesn’t have to be a political statement forever.
