The lineup for the 2013 Sweetlife Festival was announced yesterday, and features internationally acclaimed acts Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Passion Pit, as well as up-and-coming artists, including DC’s own Shark Week! Today We Love DC is giving away a pair of GA lawn tickets to the festival, before you can buy them! The festival will be held at Merriweather Post Pavilion on May 11th. (#sweetlife2013)

Comments will be closed at 4pm and a winner will be randomly selected. The winner will be notified by email. The winner must respond to our email within 24 hours or they will forfeit their tickets and we will pick another winner.

Tickets will be available to the winner at the will-call window of the Merriweather Post Pavilion on the day of the festival. The tickets must be claimed with a valid ID. The winner must be old enough to attend the specific concert or must have a parent’s permission to enter if he/she is under 18 years old.

We Love Arts: The Motherfucker With The Hat

When the WeLoveDC crew previewed this year’s theatre season, Jenn made note that Studio Theatre’s production of The Motherfucker With The Hat would surely stand out due to its R-rated name. I can assure you that the adult content doesn’t stop with the title, during the show you can expect the F-word to be tossed about like a football. There’s also an entire scene that features character Ralph D (Quentin Maré) in full frontal nudity. But the show is more than just shock value, it is actually a raw and jarring exploration of addiction, ambition, and recovery.

A short time ago, in a art gallery not far away. Ok, how about this one: the art must flow! Not good enough? Would you like to know more? Then we’ll have to go straight to…ludicrous speed!

Ok, enough with my lame, joke sci-fi references. Noe does a great job capturing Leo Villareal’s Multiverse at the National Gallery. This light sculpture is a favorite of photographers, because you never take the same photo twice. But Noe goes a couple of steps further. First by actually moving the camera to create a fascinating whirlpool effect. She also used her iPhone to get the shot, which is very impressive considering this hallway can be especially dark when only a few of the LED lights are on. All around a unique and excellent photo.

Weekend Flashback: 2/1-2/3

Yeah, so I hear some game happened last night. And a team in our general regional area won. Congrats to whoever that team was. But the really important sports news can be summed up here. If you can’t tell, I’m only a football fan at very specific moments and the day after the Super Bowl is not one of them.

But the really good news is we got got some winter over the weekend, even if it really wasn’t measurable. And we’re going to be getting a little more winter today. I’ll be honest, I’m hoping that Phil was right and we’re getting spring earlier than normal. Where to Get Those Knives of Yours Sharpened

Ok, so here’s the deal. Sharp knives are awesome, safer than dull knives and way more fun to cook with. So you should stop procrastinating and just go to https://viebelles.com/ and buy new knives.

1) Union Market. DC Mobile Sharpening has a pop up in Union Market and I dropped off my knives while I gallivanted around and drank lots of cocktails at Buffalo & Bergen, ate lots of cheese at Righteous Cheese and got my beef jerky fix at Red Apron Butchery. They were fast, good and reasonably priced. I do, though, feel compelled to say that I did feel a little judgement when I turned over my crappy Ikea knives. (Which, let’s be real, I’m judging myself for them, too.) (Bad foodie! Bad!)

2) Eastern Market, technically, Union Meat, a stand towards the middle of the building, will take those bad boys and shape them right up. If you go on the weekend, you can also pick yourself up some some fresh pasta, a new necklace, a hipster tee shirt and some artisan soaps. I’m pretty sure if Eastern Market doesn’t have it, you don’t need it.

3) Sur La Table. Far, far on the other side of the city, Sur La Table sharpens up some WASP-y knives in Chevy Chase. And Google says there’s one in Friendship Heights. Or is that the same place? I don’t know, and since I never go that far up the red line, I’m too lazy to figure it out. I think there’s one in Pentagon City, maybe, too. Sorry, I’m being bad about this blurb. I feel very meh about giving a chain my business when I can support local DC businesses! But, you know, I also like you enough to give you options.

So, there you have it. No excuses! Sharpen like a champion.

Caps Drop Another Lead, Lose to Leafs

After leading through most of three periods, the Caps couldn’t contain some of Toronto’s younger talent. Nikolai Kulemin and Matt Frattin scored just over two minutes apart in the middle of the third, giving the Leafs the lead and eventually, a 3-2 win.

Michal Neuvirth earned the night’s third star for his 37 save effort but it wasn’t enough to keep Washington from its fifth loss of the season. The Caps are now 1-5-1 and off to a dreadful start of this shortened campaign.

Upsides are a little hard to find. The Caps did stymie seven of eight Leaf power plays on the night, though it also means the Caps took too many penalties in the game. Alex Ovechkin scored his second goal of the season. And Neuvirth was a solid presence in the net.

“It’s a very disappointing loss obviously, we were up 2-1 after the second like in Ottawa,” a dejected Neuvirth told NHL.com. “Maybe we are missing a little bit of luck and we definitely have to stay out of the box.”

The Caps are at home tonight and face a stuttering Philadelphia Flyers team. Puck drops at 7 pm.
