Hot Ticket: Virgin Mobile FreeFest 9/25/10

As most music fans in the DC area and beyond already know, this weekend’s Virgin Mobile FreeFest, featuring the very now sounds of just about every “it” band of the moment, “free’d out” in a hot minute when the free tickets became available earlier this summer. Congrats if you are one of the lucky thousands who scored tix.

If you are one of the tens of thousands who failed to get tickets and are now scouring Craigslist for a friendless individual to tag along with, fear not, you may not have to resort to pimping yourself out to weird Steve who has an extra ticket but has no one to go with because he smells like cheese. Virgin Mobile is also selling tickets to their festival and they come with a ton of perks.

The VIPavilion ticket costs $125 and provides things like exclusive Pavilion seating under-the-hood at Merriweather, access to early parking, VIP bars, a back-stage tour, a free t-shirt and poster, access to the official after-party, and more. Charging for a “FreeFest” doesn’t seem very Free to me, but hey it gets you access to a comfortable spot to see some of the hottest bands on the planet without getting breathed on by stinky Steve all day.

Tickets are available over at Ticketfly.

Arlington, Crime & Punishment, The Daily Feed, WTF?!

Remember those red light cameras that Arlington installed for your safety, last month?  Well, today is the day of reckoning. Arlington PD will start issuing $50 infractions to drivers the cameras catch blowing red lights.  To be fair, this is a significantly lighter fine than would be issue by a cop catching you doing the same, and you won’t get any points on your license.  Remember, citizens, these cameras are there for your safety, and are in no way a revenue generator for the city’s budget.

And, in case you’re wondering, the cameras are at the intersections of Lee Highway – Fort Myer Dr, and  Lee Highway – North Lynn St.

Were you (un)fortunate enough to have not heard about the snow emergency (declared Sunday evening, aka Valentines Day) and got smacked with a nice big $250 ticket for parking on a snow emergency route on February 15th? I don’t know about you but I sure wasn’t checking to see if there was a snow emergency that night. Well, City Council members Brown and Wells are fighting in your corner to have those forgiven. Give them a hug.

New Tradition for National Tree Lighting Tickets

Getting ready to stand in line for tickets for the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony next week?

Don’t bother. The National Park Service is changing the process, much like they did for the White House Easter Egg Roll, to “open the ticketing process up to more Americans across the country.”

The new procedure? You have to enter an online lottery between November 4-6 (log in here at that time to register), between 12:01 a.m. EST on the 4th and 11:59 p.m. EST on the 6th. The lottery will include 2,800 ticketed seats and 7,000 standing room tickets. (If you don’t have a computer, you can call 877-444-6777 between the same time period to put your name in the lottery.)

Beginning November 9, ticket seekers can check the status of their request online; tickets will be mailed by November 15.

NPS is handing out more tickets this year, hence the change of tradition. The December 3 event will open its gates at 3:30 p.m. for all ticket holders.

DC United Ladies Night Tix Winner

What are all those cute boys cheering about in that picture? Well, they’re all cheering for the winner of our contest, Maggie who has won two tickets to Ladies Night this Saturday to watch DC United take on Toronto FC.

We asked readers to come up with a good Barra Brava cheer to use on Saturday in exchange for the tickets, and our staff voted to determine the winner. Congrats, Maggie, I’ll be emailing you with details soon.

Maggie’s winning cheer? Glad you asked. In appropriate fashion for Ladies Night (where they are offering manicures, amongst other fun things):

Who’s your manicurist?
Who’s your manicurist?
Who’s your manicurist, referee?

Never had one, never got one,
ragged cuticled referee!
