Tomorrow is Free Pancake Day at area IHOPs. Well, sorta. IHOP has partnered locally with the Leukemia and Lymphona Society to help raise funds for the organization, and will give out free short stacks of pancakes, with the *wink wink nudge nudge* expectation that you drop some cash in the box for LLS.  Both DC locations (DCUSA & Alabama Ave) will be participating, so drop in for some delicious pancakes, and know that your donations will be used for fighting cancer that affects a broad spectrum of Americans.

American Pest launched a contest today for Caps fans to win two club-level seating to one of two upcoming Capitals games at the Verizon Center. The contest runs through 11:59 p.m. on March 4 and winners will be randomly chosen and announced on Facebook.

All you have to do to win is find six ‘bugs’ hidden throughout their website and be a Facebook fan of American Pest to qualify. The tickets are to either the March 12 game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning, or the March 30 game versus the Ottawa Senators.

Fans can vote after every game for the Hard Hat Player of the Game, sponsored by American Pest. So go, find some bugs, and score some hard-to-get tickets!

AU Hosts Holy Cross in Patriot League Championship Rematch

AU beats Holy Cross in the Patriot League Championship

When you think of college basketball in DC, one of the furthest things on anyone’s mind is the American University Eagles. But — once a year — students don their red, white, and blue apparel inside Bender Arena for the “BIG” game of the season i.e. Phil Bender.

This year’s game is a rematch of last season’s Patriot League championship between the 2008 defending champion Eagles and the Holy Cross Crusaders. Granted, this is no “We Are Georgetown” packed house at the Verizon Center, but it’s as close as AU gets.

AU Men’s Basketball made it to the NCAA tournament for their first taste of March Madness in school history in 2008, followed by a repeat appearance in 2009. They were knocked out in the first round, but if there’s anything that could have and should have been learned it’s that school pride reigns supreme when sports are involved.

Who doesn’t love getting something for free?  Here’s another reason to love Gmail (as if conversation threads and Gchat and cool labs features weren’t enough): they’re offering real in-the-mail holiday cards for free this season.  All you have to do is go to their website, fill out the form, select a card design (my absolute favorite is the identical snowflakes one, called “Comic”), and they’ll mail your card to a person of your choosing.

There’s nothing like getting a card in the mail, so head over there and make someone’s day!

Free Taco If You Love The Improv

Maseca.jpg
Genuine Maseca Corn Flour by Andy Castro

It was hidden away in a DC Improv email that you might’ve just ignored, but here it is, for all our readers: You can get a free taco at California Tortilla today if you love the Improv, and are able to write on paper. Well, I suppose they’d accept this entry, printed out, with the following highlighted, if your handwriting sucks:

Dear California Tortilla,

We Totally Love the Improv. This person does, too. Please give them a free taco.

Love & Kisses,
We Love DC

There’s one in Cleveland Park on Wisconsin, and another on 7th Street across from the Verizon Center in Chinatown. There are, also, Cal Tort locations in Virginia, and in Maryland.
