We Love Arts: Rock of Ages

If you’re looking for a typical night out to the theater then Chris D’Arienzo’s Rock of Ages is not for you. The musical isn’t your standard Broadway affair. The characters aren’t complex. There’s little emotional depth. If there were original songs then I missed that memo.
What’s great about Rock of Ages [...]
We Love Sports: Nats U for Women
There’s a scene in the 1992 movie “A League of Their Own” where catcher Dottie Hinson, played by Gina Davis, her younger sister Kit and their future teammate Marla Hooch first set foot on the warning track of the fictional Harvey Field for the first-ever All-American Girls Baseball League tryouts.
It’s that first glance inside the [...]

There was a call to action from fans at Saturday’s Nats U clinic at the ballpark – stop booing Jayson Werth. That call to action couldn’t have come at a better time seeing as a few fans decided it was better to chant “Jayson Werthless” directed toward the Nationals [...]

Would you believe me if I said the Nats secured their tenth consecutive win by one run or in extra innings on Wednesday night? It’s true. Washington is now 13-3 in one-run games since June 1. They’ve won three out of four games against the Chicago Cubs and are going for [...]

Detwiler’s Quality Start Results in Another One-Run Nats Victory

The Chicago Cubs didn’t really have a chance of beating the Washington Nationals Tuesday night. If they did, it wasn’t because of Aramis Ramirez’ two-run homer in the sixth but rather the Nats’ ability to stay sharp on defense.
Left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler made his first Major League start of the season against former [...]

If Wednesday night’s game had been a few months back, this Washington Nationals team might blown their 2-1 lead over the Mariners, but last night they didn’t. The Nationals secured a one-run victory, their tenth win in the past eleven games, by scratching out a couple of runs early and playing [...]
We Love Music: Ryan Bingham at the 9:30 Club

It’s been said countless different ways, but according to folks who’ve lived around these parts, the District is “a northern city with southern charm.” As a daughter of two midwesterner’s, I never knew whether or not the whole “D.C. as a northern city with southern charm thing” was true or not. Then, [...]

The St. Louis Cardinals seemed to have left their ability to play defense somewhere in the Midwest because the Washington Nationals put them to shame Wednesday night. Pitcher Livan Hernandez threw complete game shutout to lead his team to a 10-0 victory. The game was Hernandez’s 50th complete game and ninth [...]
A Capitol Fourth: 2011 Concert Lineup Announced
If you’re anything like me then you tend to steer clear of the National Mall on Independence Day due to massive crowds. This year, though, I may make a trip down there. Why? The lineup for the Capitol Fourth concert sounds like fun.
Acts ranging from multi-platinum recording artist Josh Groban to rock legend Little Richard [...]
We Love Music: Glee Live 2011 at the Verizon Center
The pilot episode of the award-winning Fox television program Glee describes the definition of its moniker within the first two minutes of run-time. “By its very definition,” the show reveals, “Glee is about opening yourself up to joy.” Two seasons and a few Billboard records later, Glee has gone beyond its namesake. It is a [...]

The Nationals failed to secure a victory against Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies on Memorial Day despite a ten-hit game. Monday’s 5-4 loss is Washington’s third straight one-run loss during this homestand.
“It’s a loss. If we got six hits, it’s a loss. If we get fourteen, it’s the loss. Losses hurt [...]
Memorializing Endless War in DC: Is it Possible?

There was a piece in the Outlook section of Sunday’s Washington Post entitled “How we memorialize endless war?” by public-monument scholar Kirk Savage. It’s an interesting read that sparks a legitimate question on this Memorial Day weekend.
In the wake of the U.S. Armed Forces catching Osama Bin Laden after a near [...]

In early 2010, We Love DC sat down to talk to DC-based actor Noah Baron about his role in the independent, local film Adams Morgan: The Movie. Since then, Baron’s moved from the District out west to Los Angeles in pursuit of furthering his acting career.
Recently, though, Baron was part of an independent film project [...]
